...we went. We arrived in Antalya airport in the early morning and got taken to our hotel. Park Side hotel just outside Side was our accommodation for the next two weeks so of to our room we went and slept till the next day.
The hotel I thought was fantastic (although the heat did get too much for the air con and we had to hire an extra fan) it was fantastic. Now i hear you saying why was it fantastic...ok here is the rundown...
1. It ... ...from the main pool.
2. The rooms were BUG FREE...you heard me NO and i mean 0 cockroaches which was fab.
3. The staff were always pleasant, helpful and extremely helpful.
4. The hotel ran a dolmus(small minibus) to a beach they shared with the a few other hotels.
5. The entertainment was varied but some good stuff on some nights.
Now on to the beach. The crystal clear waters and sandy beaches were perfect ... more
Now I had never been abroad for two weeks before and never lower in the northern hemisphere than Frankfurt. But when my fiancé booked a holiday for us i thought what the hell and we chose Turkey and the south coast. We did not want to visit Bodrum and the other cities with drunken British youths (to be honest I didn't have a choice) so we chose this quaint ancient city steeped in history and culture. So in August 2003 off we went. 1. It had a fantastic pool with a childrens pool partitioned off from the main pool.
The crystal clear waters and sandy beaches were perfect for catching rays although in August it does get too hot between 11-4...good time for a siesta. They were very clean with little cafes every so often were you could catch some shade or some liquid refreshment. There was also lots of water sport activities offered which were fun and good value for money.
Now on to eating out. Although the hotel dealt out some great nosh it was so cheap that eating out was a pleasure especially in two restaurants we found 1. Mehmets in the Ruins was our favorite place. Imagine sitting at a table with candles flicking in a light sea breeze, the sun setting over the sand dunes, you look up and see old stones and architecture all around you and your loved one across the table looking fabulous. The food is great and your hear crickets chirping in the background. Need I say more it was fantastic. The headwaiter or the owner (cant remember) is one of the best I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Friendly, helpful and extremely caring about his customers he treats you like a member of his own family...Really recomend this place if you go there. 2. The Dragon Inn - Well I travel all that way and what do I find A WELSH restaurant. And being from Wales originally i had to try there roast lamb dinner...yum yum.. This is the place to go if you are missing home.
Now to Side itself. What a place..from the streets which are just markets and shops to the bars over looking the sea and harbor walls to Apollo's temple which i have to say ids one of the most magnificent sights at sun set...the sun sets between the pillars. The amphitheatre and museum are fantastic, I pretended i was a gladiator in my mind ...yea I know I am sad. This place needs to be seen to believe and there are websites where you can see the beauty of this land. The nightlife is centered on one club but many bars and seeing as nowhere closes until 4 in the morning you can stay out as long as you want.
While there we went to see waterfalls, roman cities and on the last day we spent it in a water park.
The value for money and the friendly people make this the best holiday ever and i will go back on day. Leather goods and clothes are great value and even better if you haggle although be warned do not by toiletries as it will be water...
Really recommend Side as a holiday destination has both nightlife and history and is just fantastic.
...are a lot of tourists. Antalya is a pratical place to sleep and enable you to visit three important sites : Perge, Aspendos ans Side. These three sites are famous for their exceptionnal amphitheatres. If you walk around them, you will certainly see many turtles enjoying the warm sun of the area.
North from Antalya, the site of Thermessos is exceptionnal (one more !!) with its big tombs in the mountain. A good idea is to rent a car in Antalya (around ... ...Thermessos, ending the day by admiring the sunset on the top of Pamukale, near the city of Denizli ; be carefull on the road back to Antalya, especially by night : many old trucks with no lights...
Eastern from Antalya, there is the city of Alanya which welcomes many tourists, most of them from North Europe.
If you decide to continue your travel to Syria, you will have to cross the city of Antakya, intersting mixture of christian and arab culture.

Advantages: Beautiful, warm, friendly people, cheap! Disadvantages: Lots of attention from locals, country still a work in progress
...in city shops such as Antalya and some clothes shops. Trying to haggle in those sorts of shops wont get you very far. Sightseeing wise there are plenty of excursions on offer. There are boat trips, coach trips to many of the countries ruins and safari trips into the mountains. These are good value for money and can be purchased from many of the travel shops in the town.
We went on one such trip to Myra and Kekova and I thought it was great value ... ...connecting places. Travelling inland from Antalya takes you up into the mountains which is still largely very undeveloped and home to basic village communities. It is a wonderfully interesting country but there are stark differences between the thriving tourist towns full of shops and restaurants and luxurious hotels and the little shanty communities that the locals live in. And you dont have to wander far to see how many of the locals live. We decided ...

aKadirs Tree Houses.
Kadirs Tree Houses was shown as a documentary on the television some time ago. And at the time I wondered if it was the type of holiday for me. Although the documentary was good I feel that it lacked detail and the true amenities that would be available.
In some respects for some it would be the ideal holiday for others such as the Ibiza visitors it would be far from there normal habitual life except for a dance round the campfire.
... ...assured that I have the right of an opinion, which is what we are here for. I shall also give as much information as possible without advertising.
I am a person who enjoys the outdoor life (As long as it is warm enough) and this kind of holiday does appeal to me and it may to many.
Tree house holidays are the up and coming holiday venture in Turkey and there are a few to pick from.
This particular holiday is based in Olympos near Antalya, which ...

Advantages: Excellent itinery, well organised tours Disadvantages: Poor service and facilities onboard
team proved to be perhaps the best thing about the ship. The entertainment was suited to the majority of guests, who were mainly over 55, and was of a good standard.
The Calypso offers two shops, but neither is particularly well stocked in comparison to what is available on other Thomson ships or other small cruise ships.
The Ancient Empires itinerary calls at Heraklion (Crete), Kusadasi (Turkey), Rhodes (Greece), Piraeus (for Athens)(Greece), and Antalya (Turkey). On this final cruise of this itinery for 2007 Thomson has changed the Antalya stop to Alanya, following guest feedback that the port of Antalya was too far from the town centre. This was a good choice, as Alanya was certainly pleasant, as were the other ports of call. The excursion we went on was very well organised, and Destination Services were helpful. I would recommend ...

Advantages: Peace and Quiet Disadvantages: Very basic facilities
Should you decide you need the most relaxing holiday ever, then you should consider visiting Cavus bay(a.k.a.Adrasan)in the region of Antalya,in Turkey.
To anyone who has previously visited Turkey, you will be used to the pace of life here, and also the friendliness of the locals.
However,in Cavus, the pace is halved, and the friendliness is doubled.
There is only one street in Cavus which is in fact,a dirt track dividing the beach and most of the hotels.
The beach is about one mile long, and frankly is a little disappointing, being a mixture of coarse sand and pebbles.
To the rear of the beach are the hotels and restaurants. The hotels are generally small and family run, although there are a couple of larger accommodations.
The restaurants are of a surprisingly good quality;our favourites being the"Mithat"and the "Deniz".
If you don ...

Congrats, you've just said 'Turkish holidays' in Turkish!
The airport for the south coast of Turkey is Antalya, the Hotel Barut Arum is in Side, a small town 60 km to the east (province of Antalya). As the transfer was not included in our arrangement, we had to take a taxi, at the taxi station there's a long list with destinations in the vicinity with fixed prices in Euro, our fare was 65 Euro.
The Euro is the second currency in Turkey, so you have to change your money into Turkish Lira as well as Euro, you can do that in the airport while you're waiting for your luggage. You can also get your visa there, British and Irish tourists still need one (German and Italian ones don't).
The Hotel Arum is a five ...
