I was very pleased to be arriving in Antigua. I'd heard a lot about it, and it was one of "the" places on the Guatemala circuit. I arrived late afternoon and booked into accommodation. There is plenty of it, and to suit every budget. Shortly afterwards, I headed towards the main drag - the central plaza. I looked at all of the "places of interest" mentioned in my guidebook, took my photos etc. Right, now what? Well, er, nothing. I soon realized that there was little else to do. Antigua is well known as a place to take Spanish classes. And it is a lovely setting, I'll give it that. So if you want to brush up/learn some Spanish, then pass the time in a cafe with classmates in a particlarly pleasant ambience, then I'm sure you'll do just fine there. But I found that I'd seen everything in an hour or so, and after that it was a bit boring. Feeling a trifle disappointed, I left the next day.
