Jolly Beach Resort, Antigua - November 2006
Review of Jolly Beach Resort by joe13

Advantages: excellent value for money, watersports included with good tuition offered
Disadvantages: rooms are small and functional but how much time do you spend in your room

...have just returned from the Jolly beach Resort, Antigua. We were a party of 9 , age range from 19 - 60. This is a great place for a group holiday but also suitable for families and couples. The non motorised water sports are free, excellent tuition is offered and there are plenty of sail boats, canoes, windsurfers available for use, we never had to wait. Also available are jet skis at a very reasonable cost of 20 us$ (about £11) for 15 minutes. ...
...available, a choice of an itialian, indian and fish restaurant as well as a buffet choice every evening. The standard of food is good and the service friendly. There is a nice harbour within five minutes walk of the hotel , with local shops and a supermarket. There is a shop on the resort complex. There are plenty of tours available, mostly involving boat trips, glass bottomed boats to a reef, fast catamaran tours around the island. These tours ... Read review

Rooms need modernising!
Review of Hawksbill by Rex Resorts, St. John's by frankiecesca

Advantages: Food and staff
Disadvantages: beach isn't one of the nicer ones in Antigua and rooms terrible

On my recent trip to Antigua myself and my husband stayed at two hotels - this was the first one we stayed at and it was only the result of the first night at our chosen hotel being overbooked and so this was where we were sent for our first night in Antigua. The hotel is classed as a 4 star hotel and is based on All inclusive. We had been put in a Superior sea view room type to make up for being put in a different hotel so this review will be based ...
...a short ride away from the airport at about 15-20 minutes and is located in a place called five island where funnily enough there is five small islands out in the bay near it. It is approximately 4 miles away from the capital St. Johns. Check in: Check in was very easy with the girl on reception giving us a small form to fill in and then giving us some leaflets about the resort which included details of meal times and water sports available. We ... Read review

The Inn, English Harbour (Antigua)
Review of Inn, English Harbour by little-whisky

Advantages: Clean, large rooms, situated on a quiet beach with beautiful view from the rooms and restaurant
Disadvantages: only basic air-conditioning provided, no internet connection in rooms.

Clean beachfront hotel offering great views over the quiet bay. The beach can only be accessed by hotel guests or guests of a neighbouring small hotel, so it does not get very noisy or over-crowded. Breakfast is taken on the beachfront every morning. One can then spend the day on the hotel's beach, kayaking or sailing (the hotel provides equipment), at the poolside, or exploring the island. The hotel is roughly a 15 minute drive to the capital or ...
...The ever popular tourist attraction of Shirley's heights (which offers steal band entertainment and barbequed food on Sunday evenings) is only 5 minutes away. Eric Clapton's haven is only 10 minutes down the road! Many of the islands well known scuba diving sights are within 10 minutes of the bay of this hotel. The hotel offers a good restaurant and bar with stunning views over the sea. The hotel rooms are large, have colonial styled furnishing ... Read review

Relaxing stay at great resort
Review of Verandah Resort, Antigua by mashpuma

Advantages: Great location, food, service, facilities
Disadvantages: Limited opportunities for shopaholics, not much for teenagers

...booked our week at the Verandah back in July 2007, for our 30th wedding anniversary, we monitored the reviews on various sites with some trepidation, but were absolutely delighted with our stay. We had booked an Ocean Front room and having checked in and enjoyed our welcome drink, we were quickly whisked by shuttle to Room 179, which had a great combination of location and view. The room was very smart and comfortable, with all the facilities we ...
...most lasting memory of the Verandah will probably be the genuinely friendly and helpful attitude of all the staff, and the other local people that we met. They made the time to ask about our day, and our plans for the rest of our stay. We would highly recommend the Verandah for a relaxing break in Antigua. ... Read review

Caribbean Hotel Heaven
Review of Coconut Beach Club, St. John's by davydoug

Advantages: The food, hammock, room and the staff
Disadvantages: zero

...2006. We stayed at the Coconut Beach Club, and thought the place was brilliant. If you're looking for a quiet place to relax and do very little, at the best price in Antigua, this is the hotel for you. The hotel is located beside Yepton Beach on the west of the island, about 20 minute's taxi from the airport in St John's (the capital of Antigua). Our package deal was with Virgin Holidays so transfers to, and from the airport were included in the ...
...is the 'redcaps'. They are locals, wearing red caps, who 'helpfully' start loading your bags onto a trolley without your permission, the second you take them off the baggage carrousel, to take them out to the taxi rank. Of course they want payment for this service, so you have to insist they leave you alone as soon as they start to grab your bags. The taxi area is literally seconds away from baggage claim so no matter how many bags you have, or even ... Read review
