This area is also where you are likely to see a rare thing – crowds of Orthodox Jews in full black garb, with hats and curls as well, as Antwerp is still home to a thriving Jewish population.
The city centre is dominated by the imposing gothic structure of Antwerp cathedral, a dark, towering testament to belief and hard labour that took many years to build. The Church of Our Lady is well worth a visit, and houses an impressive collection of Renaissance art as well. The Grote Markt (main square) is near the cathedral, and where the Grand Bazaar used to stand, you now see the AntwerpHilton, carefully constructed...

Advantages: cosy, friendly people, food is great Disadvantages: weather, traffic
...I've studied in Antwerp for four years now, and in all that time, Antwerp hasn't lost its magic. I just keep dicovering great cosy places. This is what I think of Antwerp:
- history: Antwerp is a city that is full of buildings older than 750 years. Its historical centre is very warm and cosy. The heart of the city is the Cathedral and the Grand Place. From there on, everything is close at hand.
- shopping: fashion, Belgian chocolats, fine food, gifts, antique, it's all close to each other.
- people: tourist always say that people in Antwerp ar so fashionable, well... I think most of the times that's true.
- nightlife: you can trust me, you better sleep well before you come to Antwerp... Belgium is the country with the most bars per square mile, Antwerp is the city in Belgium with the most bars in one street. Apart from...

Advantages: Some lovely buildings Disadvantages: Traffic can be "fun"
...I do like Antwerp. It is one of the finest places to spend a Sunday morning - at the excellent market in the City Centre. Amongst the more obvious sites the Art Gallery is to be recommended. I like the audio tour. On the less popular side, the Modern Sculpture Park on the edge of the city has some rather strange creations. The one involving scrap cars is particularly memorable. I also enjoyed the boat trip. You can go around the docks. Antwerp cathedral is also well worth a visit, it contains painting by Rubens....
