Park Plaza Astrid - A lovely place to stay

Advantages: Luxurious, accomodating and friendly staff, family friendly, excellent location
Disadvantages: High chair was too trendy for our baby

You come out of the Antwerp Centraal station, and cross a sort of pedestrianised square (trams and bicycles, but not cars). Advantages: location, friendly reception staff
Disadvantages: cracked sink, no shower curtain , tired room

...I can say about Antwerp's Tourist Hotel was that it was a place to sleep and wash, as it was not very welcoming to spend any more time than that in the hotel room. There is supposed to be bar with specialty beers according to the website but why stay there when there are a million nicer places to spend an evening especially the jazz cafe near the cathedral. Advantages: ideal location in the 'trendy' part of Antwerp
Disadvantages: none to mention

Only A(n)Twerp would choose this hotel

Advantages: Nice bright conference room
Disadvantages: Desperately in need of refurb and NEW reception staff

The Ramada in Antwerp is based in a rather striking mirrored building but delivers rather less than the sparkling exterior would suggest. I've stayed there several times and always come away thinking that just a little more effort could make this into a pretty nice hotel but I can't imagine that happening, mostly due to the rather dour attitude of the staff. Customer Service? What's that? On my most recent visit, I arrived by taxi from Brussels ...
...I quite like about the Ramada - they are clever lamps with glass bases that contain two bulbs to give either soft light through the base of the lamp, or brighter light above. Wi-Fi is available and works more or less. It dropped in and out of service but no worse than average and at 10 Euros per day, it's certainly not the most I've been charged. I do always feel a bit ripped off by hotel Wi-Fi charges but I didn't feel this was beyond reasonable. ...

Advantages: Nice gym
Disadvantages: Location, lack of 'ooh' factor, price
