The location of the hotel is ideal, oppiste the albert docks, in the heart of the city center close to all the shops, clubs, pubs and the river mersy. Th only food court i encounted was the coke vending machine, coffee vending machine and a little bar style table next to them. For hot food i was recommened by the stewart manning the reception to use the pizza leaflets pinned up on the wall. Being a fan of pizza though i was ok with this. They even come up right to your door with the pizza. During the night i didnt get much sleep, as hotels this cheap are used for clubbers who stop over in the city, so means that all hours through the night there is alot of people in and out of the corridors drunk, poeple getting a shower, passing your door every so often ...

Excellent base for exploring Madrid city centre

Advantages: Esxcellent location, spacious clean rooms
Disadvantages: Small reception area and lift.

The hotel is on a quiet side street and seemed to be in an area undergoing regeneration (a couple of other buildings in the street were being refurbished but there was no noise or disturbance that we noticed). We found it took us about 20 minutes to walk to the Plaza del Sol, and perhaps 30 minutes to the Plaza Mayor, two other major areas in the centre of Madrid. There are a couple of metro stations nearby and so this was a good base for exploring the rest of the city as well (and easy to find your way back to!). This hotel conversion is most successful and we found this to be a very comfortable place to stay that is within easy reach of the main sights, shopping and nightlife of Madrid. I would highly recommend this hotel for a short break in Madrid. ...

Plaza Santa Ana area

If you're looking for somewhere atmospheric, cheap and with the most interesting old bars in Madrid head for the Plaza Santa Ana. On the square itself theres another Hemingway favorite Cervecia Allemana which gets pretty busy most nights. If you're looking for upmarket top of the range accomodation also on the square is Gran Hotel Reina Victoria which has a famous bullfighting bar inside complete with real bullfighters who sometimes stay there. Downscale there are several good hostals including Hostal Carreras at c/Principe 18, 3rd floor. Rooms are larger than usual and owners are nicer than usual. ...
