Apartamentos Club Praia da Rocha, Portimao

Advantages: Proximity to Beach. Friendly Staff.
Disadvantages: No onsite restaurant.

...I arrived at Club Amarilis in March 2005 for my first visit to Portugal accompanied by my wife and two boys, aged 10 and 6. The hotel is located close to the beach but not with a sea-view. It is a clean, quiet hotel with a basic mini-market, a hairdressing salon, indoor and outdoor pool. The outdoor pool was not open in March but we were offerred free access to the indoor pool/jacuzzi. A good variety of restaurants, bars and the beautiful beach at Praia da Rocha are all within a short walk. Tour buses also stop close to the hotel - I recommend the aquapark for the energetic. Overall dad, mam and boys enjoyed the whole Portugal experience finding the people very child friendly with special mention of Bruno, the hotel barman, who always amused the boys when taking their order of Coke/Sprite. ...I never thought I would be the kind of person who would go to the same place on holiday year after year, far too boring!! Until the year we went to Praia da Oura for our holidays. We stayed in excellent apartments - Club Praia da Oura. They were clean and spacious with everything we needed for a fortnight. We went on holiday in early June so the weather was perfect . The Portugese people couldn't be any nicer or more welcoming. They love kids which is great considering we had a baby with us. The 'strip' is a long road of shops, restaurants & bars and is only a 5 minute walk from the apartments. Senhor Frog's is good for pizza & the pancakes at Costa Rica are to die for!. ...also fully equipped with seatbelts for all passengers, something which is sometimes missing on foreign buses/coaches. For both transfers (each way) the driver's were early and waiting for us as we arrived on time. They also left the vehicle each time new passengers boarded to check their details and take their luggage and help them on board should they need assistance.
