Advantages: kids,club, bar, beach, 2 pools, jacuzzis, entertainent, shops, self catering
Disadvantages: have to meet with CPO staff who will want to sell you timeshare

programme for children and adults alike with a kids club and lots of entertainment, belly dancing classes, Portugues lessons etc. The grounds are impeccably maintained with lush greenery surrounding the two pools, 4 jacuzzis, giant chess, bowls green and various bar. I have had a look round the Hotel Oura Praia and I would describe it as 4 star with gym, pool, restaurant, bar, pool table. Both sites are just a few minutes' walk from the shops and loads of restaurants. For clubby noisy footbally type pubs (can you tell its not for me!) you need to go to the Strip. There are loads of restaurants all doing 'British freindly' food for ?6-7 like chicken piri piri and chips or spare ribs or grilled sardines. The pits

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Everything

Having returned from a 2 week holiday to this apartment block, I felt I have to warn everyone to avoid it like the plague. This is the first package holiday we've been on since our Honeymoon 5 years ago, but having a 3 year old, we decided that we would give somewhere a try that had a kids club and plenty of things to keep her occupied. The apartments were in Praia Da Rocha, a very commercialised resort on the Algarve. In the brochure it stated there was a kids club, health club, sauna, jacuzzi and nightly entertainment amongst other things. The apartments were spread over 6 blocks, which was a little off putting, but we decided to give it a go anyway. Bad mistake. Review of Clube Praia Da Rocha

A Week at Club Amarilis

Advantages: Proximity to Beach. Friendly Staff.
Disadvantages: No onsite restaurant.

I arrived at Club Amarilis in March 2005 for my first visit to Portugal accompanied by my wife and two boys, aged 10 and 6. The hotel is located close to the beach but not with a sea-view. It is a clean, quiet hotel with a basic mini-market, a hairdressing salon, indoor and outdoor pool. The outdoor pool was not open in March but we were offerred free access to the indoor pool/jacuzzi. A good variety of restaurants, bars and the beautiful beach at Praia da Rocha are all within a short walk. Tour buses also stop close to the hotel - I recommend the aquapark for the energetic. Overall dad, mam and boys enjoyed the whole Portugal experience finding the people very child friendly with special mention of Bruno, the hotel barman, who always amused the boys when taking their order of Coke/Sprite.
