Advantages: A fantastic holiday for people of all ages Disadvantages: None at all - i love the place!!
Lanzarote and not possibly go on a camel ride, its a must!! Spitting is a slight problem from the camels but its all very safe and well organised. The camels getting up and back down again make for an interesting ride! The rides are located near Timanfaya National Park and are pretty good value for money. Each camel takes two people - both of which have to be around the same weight as you sit on chairs either side of the camel - so you have to balance each other out! This is an experience I would recommend for all.
The beaches contain golden sand unlike those of the other Canaries and you are pretty much guaranteed sunshine all year round. Most of the locals speak English so the language barrier is not a problem and the local currency is Euros as like the rest of Europe.
Taxis are cheap and buses regular. CostaTeguise beach is ...
Advantages: cheap bargains, fun day out, nice little village Disadvantages: can get busy
INTRODUCTION
------------------------
Since 1994 I have been visiting Lanzarote, I love my holidays there and appreciate the little things more and more as I get older. When I was 7 and visiting Lanzarote for the first time I hated the hustle and bustle of the market. It was often cloudy and people pushed past to get their bargains. I never wanted to know the history of Teguise and I certainly didn't want to stand around taking pictures of Canarian ladies in pretty frocks.
A couple of months ago however I returned from a trip to Lanzarote with my fiance and my take on tings was completely different. I had a great time exploring the stalls selling souvenirs of many cultures, I enjoyed tasting Tapas and I certainly enjoyed bartering myself.

Advantages: Informal, clean, decent food, right near the beach Disadvantages: Hideously expensive bar and wines
We stayed at the Pestana Bay "Aparthotel" four-star hotel in Funchal (the capital of Madeira) in August 2005 and I'm happy to recommend it to anyone reading this. It was clean, conveniently placed (i.e right near the beach and with a nearby bus stop for trips into town), not too formal or "stiff upper lip" and the breakfasts were pretty good.
COSTS:
We paid just over £500 each including flights, for a 2-week stay in August, which we thought was pretty good value given that it's not the cheapest of locations. This included buffet breakfast each morning.
The bar is expensive and probably best avoided if you need to watch the euros- we paid something like 10 euros for a Southern Comfort and coke, and a small bottle of beer. There are plenty of bars in Funchal where you can get the same drinks for under four euros, so I would advise ...
