My husband and I decided to book this hotel to stay in while we were getting married in Edinburgh. We decided to book this hotel after looking at its website and I must say that many hotels are a letdown when you see them in reality but this one was just as good or even better than we expected. We booked four nights at the hotel in a Superior King room at a total cost of 517 pounds for 3 nights including breakfast. The Superior room included 1 King bed, an exceptional castle view with balcony together with room amenities of fridge, safe, walk in power shower with separate bath, bathrobes and slippers, savoury and sweet snacks, specially enhanced Yu Spa handmade toiletries,a large desk, ground coffee and selected teas, choice of pillows, iron and ironing board, and limited edition artwork, wireless internet access and a complimentary newspaper. The use of warm wood tones, cool decor, luxury fabrics and crisp white bedding completed the modern, stylish feel.

From the moment you step into the hotel with its glass and sandstone frontage to its impessive entrance and reception area you realise that the money you spent was worth it. In the entrance area there is a brasserie where they serve lunches and informal dinners and behind that area there is the Metro Bar with its lovely black leather sofas and large screen tv.

From the moment we checked in the staff were extremely friendly and always ready to help you, from always welcoming you with a friendly smile and wishing you a lovely day to always allowing you to get into and out of the elevator before them. They also happily bring your luggage upstairs on those lovely gold trollies which make you feel as though you're in the Ritz..

On our wedding night we dined in the 'Heights' rooftop restaurant with its breathtaking views of Edinburgh castle. The restaurant, which has been awarded 2 AA rosettes, takes a modern twist on traditional Scottish quisine, serving angus beef, venison, rumbledethumps, clapshot etc. I feel that this is one area where the hotel let itself down because although the food was very delicious there was very little of it and it came in at a hefty price.
In the morning, the restaurant is turned into the breakfast area and I thought that the breakfast was delicious. There was a continental-style breakfast area with fresh pastries, croissants, rolls, cereal, cheese, fresh fruit, yoghurt and plenty of fresh fruit juice. You could also ask for them to cook you various warm breakfast from you from the awesome traditonal Scottish breakfast to scrumptious stacked pancakes with maple syrup. There were also various other options for the health conscious but with the selection on offer, I couldn't help but help myself to more and more pancakes as the breakfast was an all-you-can-eat buffet.

In order to work off some of the calories we put on at breakfast my husband and I went to the Yu Spa which is exclusively for hotel guests. We used the sauna and steam room, aptly named the ''Tropicarium' and we also used the gym area with its state-of-the-art machines that even had tv screens on them! We also had a go in the hotels pool which has windows with screens on them to stop passers-by nosying in from the street. However, if the passer-by was either a very tall adult or a rather small child then it was easy for them to see you while you lay flat out on your dck-chair by he pool as the screens didn't cover the whole window.

The hotel also has a car-park for guests although I thought it was a bit grungy as it is under a hill so there are plenty of birds hanging around which leads to you coming back in the morning to find your car covered in bird poop.

The hotel is set in Grassmarket in Edinburgh which, for those of you who don't know is literally 2 minutes walk from the famous Royal Mile. This was perfect because if you got tired on your night out it was quick and easy just to go back to your hotel, even on your own if you wished as it is in a very safe area. There is an Edinburgh tour bus stop across from the hotel which is very handy for getting around the city and despite the bus costing more than usual buses, you can use your ticket as many times as you like for 24 hours.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the hotel and i really want to go back again sometime soon. I really reccommend it as a place to stay as long as you are willing to fork out at least 120 pounds per night but if it for a special occassion such as a wedding then go for it! I couldn't have thought of a better place to stay on my wedding night!
