A long weekend in Appart'City, Lille

Advantages: Price, self-contained professional apartments, high quality accommodation
Disadvantages: Slightly cramped, a little way out of town

We booked Appart'City for a 3 night long weekend in July, through Eurostar. At the time we booked, it was one of the cheapest options available. We knew it was a little way out-of-town, in the Madeleine district, but we decided that was an acceptable price to pay to get good quality accommodation at a low price. If you're travelling light, it's easily walkable from Lille Europe, otherwise hop on the red or green tram line (access underground at Lille Europe), and hop off at Romarin - one stop up the line. We found it difficult to actually find the building, and locals couldn't give us directions - it's not obvious that the building is a hotel, even when you're standing in front of it. Appart'City is basically a modern block of apartments which are probably mostly aimed at business travellers, but also available for tourist breaks. So ...

Strange Affair

Advantages: Excellent crime thriller
Disadvantages: Slow build up

his brother but now he sounds like he's in trouble. As Alan is unable to get hold of him on the phone he drives down from Yorkshire to London to see what the call is all about. Meanwhile back in Yorkshire the body of a young lady Jennifer Clewes is found in her car with a bullet in her head. When the investigation begins in the dead ladies back pocket Alan Banks' address is discovered. So DI Cabbot checks what turns out to be his old address and finds the place had been broken in and Inspector Banks no-where to be seen. The Strange Affair begins. As Alan seeks to find his troubled brother in London, while 'his team' try and find the murderer in Yorkshire. Review of Strange Affair - Peter Robinson

Bordeax est jolli. Bordeaux is beautiful

Advantages: Beautiful, lots going on, many shops
Disadvantages: Lots of graffiti

I vistied Bordeuax in the summer for the Bristol-Bordeaux exchange. This consisted of me going to Bordeaux for two weeks trying to improve my French. It worked! there is a lot of great features in Bordeaux. the airoport was the first thing i saw. It was very clean and ran on time. I then was on the road where you see all the vine yards and big houses. the only bad thing was the amount of grafiti. this was probably becasue i was driving through a bad suburb. The shops in Bordeaux are very good with a huge selection of shops. The main shopping street is about 1km long (well so i was told.) they had all the good English shops which were a little cheaper. Those of you who know how much Quicksilver costs will be suprised that you could buy shirts for 5euro about 3-4 pounds. Then they had my favourite shop which i think should be ...
