Advantages: excellant value for money Disadvantages: set on steep hill
...displayed stating this is a no smoking hotel and on entrance there is no lingering smell of smoke at all.
The conservatory has numerous displays of tourist leaflets, as well as magazines aplenty, three sets of very comfy conservatory sofas and chairs and an elegant chess board set out for guest’s enjoyment.
The view is of the Fells and Lake Windermere from this room.
From here, you walk through a door into the hallway, and reception is through another door to your left.
It is a small reception, as it is situated in the bar area, where afternoon tea and pre-dinner drinks can be served.
Staff were friendly and polite, explaining that the table allocated for the evening meal that night, if we were staying, would be our allocated table throughout our stay. We were asked, again very politely, that whilst the Hillthwaite appreciated its...

Advantages: Relax with a view Disadvantages: Need a car
...We have stayed at Linthwaite House a few times. We have always been made welcome and they try and create an atmosphere of staying in a nice country house.
The view from the terrace is fantastic! You look down on Windermere Lake and across the lake to the rising mountains. As you are so high up you seem to see for ever, the changing light, the lake, green of the trees, the clouds scudding across. Above the hotel they have 14 acres of land with a small tarn ferns and bushes. The perfect easy walk before or after a meal.
The food is very good, well prepared, not huge helpings but well cooked using fresh local ingredients - they pride themselves on their food.
Of course this is not a cheap budget hotel but if you want to push the boat out and celebrate a special birthday or anniversary then think of going to Linthwaite House...

Advantages: Very close to city centre Disadvantages: none
...The Anchor GuestHouse is situated in the city centre. From Dublin Airport, travel on the 747 (Easily caught from outside the airport exit, well signposted and regular) Stay on the bus until Dublin Bus Station, the Anchor GuestHouse is situated in Lower Gardiner Street which is just round the corner from the bus station.
The GuestHouse is a town house with a new extension on the back. There are a few steps to go up and I have not seen a ramp. From the entrance hall, up about 10 stairs you walk through a sitting room to the extension which has a lift.
The rooms are all well presented, clean and tidy with Television and en-suite bathroom with shower, toilet and sink. A tea tray will be put in the room for an extra small payment and will be filled up everyday.
We have only stayed in twin rooms, but they will let them...

I first found this book after reading up on the Richard and Judy Summer Reads 2007, and after loving some of the other books on their list, I decided I would try this one. This isn't normally the kind of book I would go for, but I really liked the blurb... more
