Aran Blu Hotel, Lido di Ostia

Advantages: Close to Rome cheap to get to and in.
Disadvantages: Open to the Hot Sun, be prepared.

...All Great Tourist Cities have a MUST VIEW site, that most visitors should visit, but most Tourists do not visit or do not even know of its exisitance. OSTIA ANTICA is one such site. Ask people about POMPEI and 99 percent know about it, but did you know about OSTIA. GETTING THERE:- --------------------------- Go to Rome for a few nights. Just Joking. Regular trains run from ROMA - LIDO di OSTIA station which is next to PIRAMIDE Metro stop on LINE B on the Rome Metro. Journey time approx 30 mins. Cost about 1 Euro. (In fact our 75 min Rome Bus ticket covered us). The rome METRO does have a reputation for pick-pockets. And while we would not use the Metro in central Rome because of this risk , we did not have or see any problem on this stretch which is all above surface. ..., is second in beautifulness at Pompei ruins. Near to the roman ruins, there is the old castle of pope Giulio II (XV century) and the old village with the Sant'Aurea church. Interesting website: http://www.ostiaantica.net, http://www.ostia-ostie.net, http://www.ostia-antica.org (in english) How you can reach Ostia Antica: by train: metro B, Piramide station - and then train "Roma-Lido", Ostia Antica station. by car: via del Mare (or via Ostiense), from Grande Raccordo Anulare or, from Rome, leaving from Porta San Paolo. I really hope you can visit it: it is worth going there to see a piece of the ancient times.... Read review

Advantages: spacious room, clean and cheap

...I would highly recommend this hotel. The Lido is definitely the best place to stay when visiting Venice. Not only is there the added bonus of the lovely Lido beaches and the cheaper restaurants and bars but the hotels themselves are much larger and modern than those on Venice itself. Having stayed on both, I would definitely recommend anyone staying across the water. The boat ride is about 10 minutes and the walk to the boat itself is about 15 minutes from the hotel. The staff were quite unhelpful but I think it might have been because we were young and english and they just didn't think we were interested. To be honest, we weren't and we didn't require any help anyway. The rooms were very clean and much more modern than you would expect. A very good hotel, worth the 10 minute walk from the Lido's main street.... Read review
