Portrait of Paphos

Advantages: Charming combination of the old and the new give this resort something for everyone.
Disadvantages: Heat oppressive at height of summer. Some areas rather loud and built up

appreciate simply cooked Greek cuisine, do try and aim for one of the smaller and quieter tavernas. Indeed the family run ones are probably your best bet. My recommendations for tavernas of this type are Niki's Tavern, Stavros & Georgia or Melania (serves a very good meat meze and home grown grapes from their own vines), all of which are situated just outside of the main thrust of Paphos on the Tomb of the Kings road heading out towards Coral Bay. Drinks wise, the local lager Keo or Leon is very drinkable. However, Carlsberg (plus others) are readily available at the same price if you prefer to stick to more recognisable brands. Cypriot wines are also very nice - especially the white wines. Oh and don't forget to try the ouzo - a white spirit made of aniseed. ~*~ THINGS TO DO IN PAPHOS AND NEARBY ~*~ If you are a fan of ancient ...

Perfect Paphos

Advantages: Friendly people, cheap food, great atmosphere, hot!
Disadvantages: perhaps too touristy, and will become more so in time

of an evening if we wished. We were able to find out anything we needed about the apartment or the surrounding area in just a quick phone call, and the owner also arranged for some food to be in the apartment ready for our arrival. Last Wednesday my boyfriend and I set off from Gatwick on a GB Airways (subsidiary of BA) flight to Paphos. We had flown with GB Airways before and to be honest, they weren?t our first choice of airline. (On a flight to Austria we had to turn around half way there because the plane hadn?t been de-iced properly and then had to sit in Gatwick for 6 hours waiting for another plane to be ready! For a 4-day holiday we didn?t really appreciate losing a day!) However, on this occasion we didn?t really have a lot of choice. Paphos Airport is relatively small, with currently only two runways (I am told that they are probably ...

Review of Paphos (Cyprus)

Paphos for all season Holidays.

Advantages: It is very friendly, drive on the Left hand side, and mostly speak English
Disadvantages: You can't lay on the beaches in the winter, and the evenings are cold.

I have just returned home after a couple of weeks in Paphos. This is my seventh visit to Paphos over 3 years. This time it was very different. Being my first visit since Cyprus changed over to Euros in Jan 2008, I was amazed to notice the changes that had already been made. The Harbour had changed almost beyond recognition. For those of you who have already visited this area, you are in for a shock of delight. The harbour sea front has now gone pedestrian. Gone the noisy buses, the taxis parked all along the sea front. the shabby little shops have now been replaced with smart boutiques and gift shops. Restaurants are modern clean and inviting. It was almost finished when I returned and a few more weeks will see the completion. The traffic is now diverted through the shop, by Debenhams and the Supermarket, the main ...
