Advantages: In a quiet part of town and right on the beach Disadvantages: Costs a fraction more than other hostels per bed per night
Booking accommodation for the Christmas period is always tough. Ditto booking accommodation on a strict budget, booking accommodation when there are a few of you, and booking accommodation in a specific location with specific features. These were all issues when we booked our accommodation for our Christmas stay in Byron Bay, and even though we booked what we thought was well in advance (early October), our choices were limited. For this reason we went with the first hostel that could fit us in - the Backpackers Inn on the Beach - and booked for the 4 of us to stay 4 nights.
When we booked we were told they couldn't guarantee we'd all be in the same room, which seemed a bit strange since there were 4 of us, and many of their rooms sleep 4, but when we arrived they happily gave us a room to ourselves. Dorms and private rooms are ...
Advantages: Close to town and all amenities Disadvantages: none
I have never stayed in the Premier Inn before, but I felt I had to share my experience of the past weekend.
The staff in both reception and the restaurant were fantastic, they were really helpful and made you feel right at home.
The room and bathroom were both spotless, warm and the freeview television meant that my daughter didn't miss her soaps while she was away. The bed was both big and comfortable and we didn't have any trouble getting to sleep.
We opted for the breakfast deal and we were not disappointed, the food was well cooked and warm there was also plenty of choice.
Access to the hotel was excellent for both able bodied and non-able bodied people, we didn't have a wheelchair but we did have a six month old baby and a pram, and even though it is situated next to Charing Cross rail station we didn't hear a thing from ...
Advantages: Interesting, very interesting! Disadvantages: The most famous tomb is now closed.
Day 1 in Egypt, site number 2 (and it is only 09:30), so let's do away with the babble and launch right in....
~What's this place all about then?~
The Valley of the Queens is the burial site for the Queens & children of the Pharaohs of the 18th, 19th & 20th dynasties (1550 - 1070BC). It is said that there are about 70 (some claim as many as 85) different burial sites in the area.
Probably the most famous tomb here is that of Queen Nefertari*, which is the largest and most spectacular in the valley. Unfortunately, this tomb is now no longer open, we were told by our guide that a couple of years ago there was some rain in the valley, which caused some damage to Nefertari's tomb. The Egyptian Government went about restoring the damage, and spent roughly a cool million on it. To recuperate the funds they opened the tomb, but ...
