Advantages: see the Roman power Disadvantages: Bad traffic system
...I went to Rome on october 2000, in the sense of Roman city is very good to visit and find out how great the roman power was....I went there by myself and friends. The traffic of the city is very bad in my opinion, they drive very fast and without rules....they usually drive over the light...please don't expect that much to walk immediately when the green light to allow crossing the road....
I had prefered to explore the Rome city by walk because I couldn't stand its transportation system...bus system is very difficult to understand.....taking the underground only when I wanted to go back to the hotel. In the train, please be careful your bag and stuffs especially during the rush hours, the pickpockets work in this time.......

Advantages: Location close to the Train/Buses. Disadvantages: Distance from the main sites - but hey the walk is great!
...I went to Rome in May and stayed at the Hotel Gioberti, located extremely close to the train station and bus terminus. It was excellent, clean and convenient for transport and sights. It operates on a B&B basis, and is situated in the Via Gioberti. Although the bed was harder than I would have at home, it was comfortable and most important the room and ensuite was clean.
Breakfast is a self-service affair on the first floor, offering a selection of cold meats and cheeses, bread, cereals, fresh fruit and the usual tea and coffee.
The area around the hotel is one of the cheaper to eat in, with restaurants locally offering a good selection of traditional italian foods. Most of the restaurants we frequented were filled with Italians, as good a recommendation as you'll ever get!...

Advantages: crowded with attractions Disadvantages: too much to see
...I was in Rome some weeks ago on holiday. I liked the place a lot - crowded with attractions.
Take care of pick-pockets. They are professionals.
Travel - I walked a lot to enjoy the Romanists' life and attractions. I visited a lot of places and sometimes had to wait 2 hours to enter a place, Capella Sistina. The 2 hours waiting were worthed.
I recommend to have a good shoes and walk around. transport is not that much efficient. Not too much people speak English.
Restaurants use to display prices which may differ when presenting their bill. Food is good, but must take care not to be screwed.
I stayed in a hotel near the central train station. The hotel Imperia is good, but I had not felt comfortable enough to be out during the night. There are a lot of illegal emigrants around, sometimes drunk....

Amazing position. Its only a few meters away from piazza di Spagna - perhaps Italy's most famous piazza. Girls will love visiting the numerous boutiques of via Condotti. Its strategic position makes it the perfect accommodation if in Rome for the first... more
