The Wonders of China and the Mighty Yangzte was a fortnight of sheer delight. Every travel arrangment worked without a hitch, our tour director Kitty Shi could not have been more helpful and friendly, hotels were more than adequate and the food we enjoyed, albeit a little westernised at times, was exceptional.
The cruise ship is certainly not liner standard - rooms are clean and well serviced but if you want luxury you may need to consider paying the premium for the Presidential Suite!
This is not a tour for the faint hearted and you do need to be fit - there is a considerable amount of walking and steps to climb most days - the Great Wall is a particular physical challenge but not to be missed! Each day startsd quite early and we were well occupied. Perhaps a little more free time would be a bonus.
City Hotels were carefully chosen, comfortable but often out of the main centre; hpwever for the reasonable basic cost no one should be expecting a central location. We were receiving the same and often better treatment than co-travellers with agencies charging far higher prices.
If you have the choice do take the Virgin option for travel to and from the UK - they certainly have the edge on Air China.

Would we use Archers again YES, this was the first Archers trip we have done , and we extended it to visit HongKong , stayed at the Park Lane Hotel, again fantistic, look at my pictures and then tell me you didn't enjoy it , we were very lucky to be with a very friendly group and in our opinion Chris Wang was by far the top guide and we thank him lots. we had two birthdays within our stay whic were made even more special. our overall rating ... ...Also worth bearing in mind China appeared to be very clean wherever we went no rubbish littered around
Enjoy a wonderful Holiday and experience the culture ,& weather of somewhere different from Linda & Jim Lumley
p.s our next trip with Archers is America with extras ...

Advantages: none Disadvantages: very poor customer care
...We had to remind Archers to send the holiday documents. They were finally received only 4 days before departure!
We had booked a resort holiday in Montecatini (travel via Venice Airport). When we checked in at the UK airport we were informed that the flight was cancelled and substituted with one that did not provide in flight catering. It was late departing. In Italy during transfer to the Venice hotel we were informed that the accommodation was ... ...providing customer satisfaction. Complaints to Archers resort manager were a waste of our time! Even the additional booked outings did not go without fault. But it’s a long distressing story. We did not get a holiday in our opinion,and were glad to get back to the UK.
Even seasoned Archers travellers in the group said they would never use Archers again after this experience.
A complaint to Archers office on our return was initially ignored, ...

Holiday to Italy with Archers was a complete disaster, ghastly hotels, very poor quality food and customer care appalling.
Holiday rep only interested in optional extras at a high price.
If you do not have to book with Archers - don't
Not an experience to be repeated.
Venice hotel, on busy main road with no facilities
Rome hotel, miles from city centre.
The only reason these hotels are used by Archers must be cost. ...

...the right thing by informing Archers immediately I would be unable to travel but the same day putting forward the alternative name. They do give a 14 day period prior to commencement for this arrangement but this was impossible in our case and my friend having travelled with Archers at least 10 times in the past thought we would receive a sympathetic hearing - not so! I was told initially we would probably have to pay the airline extra for change ... ...I did receive £200 of Archers holiday vouchers, which surely, accepts a modicum of guilt. My friend travelled alone, with free seats on the aircraft, the touring coach in Canada and room key for hotels still available in my name. I could not advise anyone to have dealings with a company that treats its customers this way ...

...was supposedly a four star hotel. Complaints to resort manager ignored and she refused to talk to us.
This did not just happen to us but to three or four other parties on the same holiday.
Complaint to Archers office ignored - blamed us for "too high expectations!!!" ...
