The Arlington hotel is in the centre of Dublin nest to the river Liffey. I went with my husband and 7 other friends- which ended up with us requiring 3 double rooms 1 twin room and one single- we booked online and took up their offer of the winter madness (this meant by going Monday to Wednesday we would have free breakfast both mornings and one free evening meal for €99 per person per night) this was available for us all except for the one who booked a single room and had to pay for his meal.
Booking for this many people online we were a bit worried that there would be a lot of problems (it's not the same talking to someone on the phone) and when we arrived sure enough only 2 double rooms had been booked but the hotel reception staff were very efficient in getting us another room that would be ready the same time as the others. Then we had the problem that the person in the single room had already paid for it over the phone and there being no record of that and got charged for the room again, it took a while to sort it out (about half a hour) while the hotel checked there statements and found that we were right and the room had already been paid for.
Now even though I said earlier the hotel staff were efficient which they were, they were not friendly and we were made to feel bad for waiting in the reception area even though it was them taking their time, and after traveling since 6 o'clock that morning we were hoping that we would have been made to feel welcome.
When we got to our rooms we were impressed to find there were hair dryers, shampoo, shower gel, tea/coffee making facilities, T.V and a trouser press were all in the room, one thing I did find a bit strange though the double bed which is also advertised as being there king sized bed was in actual fact 2 single beds pushed together which did come apart in the night but we thought we'd have an adventure and not think about it!
I mention in the disadvantages the rooms, what I meant is the rooms are in need of decorating as the paper was peeling off the wall and a friend of ours had cigarette burns all in her bed quilt but it is really nice leaving for breakfast in the morning and returning to the maid completely tidying up the rooms and making the beds!
We decided to use our free meal voucher on the first night (it wasn't for the restaurant but for the bar) and went to the bar and had a carvery which was a really nice meal, after we finished we moved to the middle of the bar to watch the live entertainment they had. There were 3 men who got every one in a lively mood, then came on 5 Irish dancers who were fantastic and we went to bed that evening very impressed with Ireland.
I just want to say about the breakfast, the waitress in charge of breakfast was so friendly our group nicknamed her 'Auntie Breakfast', when we went down in the morning and said there were 9 in the group she moved all the tables around for us so we could sit together, then for unlimited breakfast (I'm not normally a big eater) I had a pot of hot chocolate,2 croissants with butter and jam, beans on toast with bacon and egg and to finish off a bowl of cereal! Now I didn't have to buy food for the rest of the day and even at dinner I still couldn't finish it because I was full from breakfast!
To finish the review I would say if you going to Ireland the Arlington Hotel is good to stay in if you're going in a group of people to have fun, drink all night and want to see the entertainment, however I wouldn't go if you want a romantic break as listening to the screaming people leaving night clubs can stop any romance at night!
Advantages: City centre location Disadvantages: Expensive, noisy at night times.
The Arlington Hotel is situated in the heart of Dublin, just off O’Connell Street, and across the river from the Temple Bar area of the city. The entrance hall and adjoining Knightsbridge Bar are decorated like something out of a medieval movie, complete with a faux set of armour. While the entrance and reception are always well lit, the bar is quite dark even during the day.
According to the hotel’s website, it boasts 131 rooms, ranging from double ... ...delicious.
The Arlington is a fairly expensive hotel. A twin room, including breakfast, costs around €100/night. The executive room would set you back €135/night. There are sometimes special offers, but generally the prices are very high. Not the best hotel for those wishing to see Dublin on a budget. ...

Advantages: Big doormen Disadvantages: no appreciation for partially disabled people
...between the distillary and the ARLINGTON is about half a mile, if not more. I suffer from MS and a walk of that distance is a problem and by the time we reached the Liffey I had become very steady on my feet and we looked for a comfortable place to sit and to take in the atmosphere of the festival.
The Arlington offered both of these, and whilst my friends took a seat, I went took the disabled bathroom. On leaving and whilst attempting to join my ... ...He informed me that I had to leave. Even after my wife and I had explained the reason for my staggering and my friends had displayed and confirmed that nobody was drunk, we were forced to leave. Severely dampening our spirits.
It did not stop there. On our return to England we wrote a letter to the Dublin Tourist Board. They forwarded our letter onto the Manager of the Arlington, and to cut a long story short, the reply was basically 'We don't care'.

Advantages: Central Location, huge bar inside Disadvantages: Could be noisy if on a lower floor
...The best thing about the Arlington is the location - it is right on the bank of the Liffey just off O' Connell street so it could not be more central.
The room was clean enough, double bed, tea and coffee making facilities, no air conditioning.
Own bathroom and toilet, I noticed right away that there was no pressure in the shower which merely dribbled pathetically, went down to the desk and told them and they had it fixed within 20 minutes.
The ... ...live music, Irish dancing etc. This was all pretty good. It really is a party place which fills up with hundreds of people drinking and dancing (not just hotel guests) until the early hours.
So if you are looking for somewhere quiet - this really is not the place.
The breakfast was excellent - cereal / toast / fry / fruit / yoghurt - unlimited and of good quality - abundance.
We received nothing but the best service during our stay there. I even ...

Advantages: Central Location Disadvantages: Lots of Little ones!
Stayed here for 5 nights at the end of April.
Paid extra for an "Executive Mini Suite" which was an L shaped room with an extra armchair and sofa - never saw the "normal" rooms but wouldn't have paid all that extra if I'd known what it would be like.
The room looked out over the Liffey which if you've been to Dublin before you'll know is not a great selling point and as the room was at the front of the Hotel the traffic could be heard and felt ... ...also a problem - there was no menu in the room and on asking about it at reception was told "go to the bar for a menu" they are not put in rooms! Another problem was the TV in the bedroom - advertised on the website as having "Satellite Multicahnnels" - well don't expect too much (Eurosport, a few Irish channels, a couple of foreign channels and the usual CNN) though there was a large screen and TVs in the bar with sky channels.
Speaking of which ...

...knew our way around. The Arlington had a good website offer and seemed one of the only city centre hotels with parking.
We got a room upgrade as the doubles had all gone..family room we could have had a party in it soooo huge.
The second night we watched their entertainment of Irish music and dancing until 11pm and then went up to bed. Well the disco downstairs was so loud we couldnt sleep. After calling down to reception 3 times it ended...at ... ...so maybe the rest is not as affected. But I think it is only on the weekend as there was no noise on the first night. Breakfast was good, busy hotel so had to wait 5-10mins for table. We didnt have any other meals there as there is so much to choose from in Dublin. The location meant it was all in walking distance and the stop for the bus tour is right outside so great for first timers in Dublin. ...

Advantages: location, staff, breakfast, nightclub Disadvantages: if you have a room on the front could be tiny!!
and straight into the temple bar area, of which then you can go on into the grafton street area too. Don't be put off by the horrendous yellow colour of the building outside as inside the hotel also has a brilliant bar area that gets pretty busy in the day for matches etc and a restaurant(which we didn't eat in unfortunately but looked lovely)
The hotel bar at night becomes a nightclub and it is one of the popular ones in dublin - we also found out that the prices on drinks in here were cheaper than soe of the other bars we went into whcih is quite good considering it is a hotel club! The dj played a good kix of dance, r&b, pop, and classics. It has two floors and the lower floor tends to be a more older blend of music but, it means there is somehting for everyone!!
We had breakfast included in our hotel stay and the lady who runs the breakfast ...
