The Arlington hotel is in the centre of Dublin nest to the river Liffey. I went with my husband and 7 other friends- which ended up with us requiring 3 double rooms 1 twin room and one single- we booked online and took up their offer of the winter madness (this meant by going Monday to Wednesday we would have free breakfast both mornings and one free evening meal for €99 per person per night) this was available for us all except for the one who booked a single room and had to pay for his meal.
Booking for this many people online we were a bit worried that there would be a lot of problems (it's not the same talking to someone on the phone) and when we arrived sure enough only 2 double rooms had been booked but the hotel reception staff were very efficient in getting us another room that would be ready the same time as the others. Then we had the problem that the person in the single room had already paid for it over the phone and there being no record of that and got charged for the room again, it took a while to sort it out (about half a hour) while the hotel checked there statements and found that we were right and the room had already been paid for.
Now even though I said earlier the hotel staff were efficient which they were, they were not friendly and we were made to feel bad for waiting in the reception area even though it was them taking their time, and after traveling since 6 o'clock that morning we were hoping that we would have been made to feel welcome.
When we got to our rooms we were impressed to find there were hair dryers, shampoo, shower gel, tea/coffee making facilities, T.V and a trouser press were all in the room, one thing I did find a bit strange though the double bed which is also advertised as being there king sized bed was in actual fact 2 single beds pushed together which did come apart in the night but we thought we'd have an adventure and not think about it!
I mention in the disadvantages the rooms, what I meant is the rooms are in need of decorating as the paper was peeling off the wall and a friend of ours had cigarette burns all in her bed quilt but it is really nice leaving for breakfast in the morning and returning to the maid completely tidying up the rooms and making the beds!
We decided to use our free meal voucher on the first night (it wasn't for the restaurant but for the bar) and went to the bar and had a carvery which was a really nice meal, after we finished we moved to the middle of the bar to watch the live entertainment they had. There were 3 men who got every one in a lively mood, then came on 5 Irish dancers who were fantastic and we went to bed that evening very impressed with Ireland.
I just want to say about the breakfast, the waitress in charge of breakfast was so friendly our group nicknamed her 'Auntie Breakfast', when we went down in the morning and said there were 9 in the group she moved all the tables around for us so we could sit together, then for unlimited breakfast (I'm not normally a big eater) I had a pot of hot chocolate,2 croissants with butter and jam, beans on toast with bacon and egg and to finish off a bowl of cereal! Now I didn't have to buy food for the rest of the day and even at dinner I still couldn't finish it because I was full from breakfast!
To finish the review I would say if you going to Ireland the Arlington Hotel is good to stay in if you're going in a group of people to have fun, drink all night and want to see the entertainment, however I wouldn't go if you want a romantic break as listening to the screaming people leaving night clubs can stop any romance at night!
Never been to Dublin, this one sounds good, very helpful review
