I have had the pleasure of staying here on business on several occasions. My mother’s family come from Manchester so I always really enjoy visiting Manchester.

About the hotel:
The Arora Manchester is a four star hotel with over 140 bedrooms. It’s part owned by Cliff Richard and there are even five special Cliff bedrooms decorated with his memorabilia if you like that kind of thing! The location on Princess Street is also excellent as you are in the city centre and only 10 minutes walk from Piccadilly station if you arrive by train. It’s also about a 20-minute journey from the airport, which is also very convenient. The hotel doesn’t have it’s own car park but apparently guests can use the nearby NCP to park at a discounted rate.

First Impressions:
It’s an old fashioned looking building but it also looks quite grand. It is also a Grade 2 listed building. This makes a nice change to nasty looking 1970’s or 1980’s tower block style hotels. I have always been dropped off in front of the hotel and have to drag my bag up the steps. There is a side entrance which is step free. The lobby is small with a few comfy seats and tables dotted around. It’s very white as well. The reception desk has always been manned and is generally quick and efficient. You have the choice of stairs or a lift to your floor and you do need to use your key card to access the lift which I always have problems with!

The Rooms:
I have stayed in both the ‘Superior’ and ‘Premier’ rooms. The main difference seems to be size. The ‘Superior’ room I stayed in was quite small and had a small, high window, whilst the ‘Premier’ room on my last visit was spacious with a nice view of Manchester. The rooms have a beige and red theme which includes a red pillow and throw on the bed. The rooms have everything you could need, decent television, mini bar and even an iron and ironing board. The bathroom has always been sparkling clean and well stocked with fluffy towels and Gilchrist & Soames ’Spa Therapy’ toiletries. I do like a hotel with luxury bathroom goods!

Eating and Drinking:
The hotel has the Obsidian Bar and Restaurant. I have never ventured down there but I have ordered room service. Do note that this stops at 10pm though. Arriving late one night in the pouring rain I had the options of the local chippy, Chinatown (which is practically next door) or I was directed to McDonalds!

I have had the full breakfast before which I enjoyed. I have also had lunch of a tuna baguette and crisps. These were both however quite expensive, even with my discount, but nice. I would probably recommended that you venture outside to eat. On this occasion the only reason I stayed in was because it was pouring with rain and I had no suitable clothes to wear!

Internet access:
You can access the internet in the ‘Crew Lounge’ for £1 per hour but it can be quite slow. There is only one terminal. There is also a microwave in here which may be useful, sofas and local newspapers.

Customer Service:
This has always been positive. Staff are friendly and helpful and very knowledgeable about Manchester.

Prices:
The walk-up rate for a double room is apparently £165! BUT if you book online in advance rooms can be obtained for as little as £65.

The Bottom Line:
Good hotel, centrally located and recommended if you can get a decent rate.

I know this hotel - walked past plenty of times and wondered what it is like! I guess though since I live near the city, I would not be staying here any time soon! x
