Benvinguts a Barcelona

Advantages: Close to the city, good links, clean, good facilities
Disadvantages: Perhaps not as efficient as it could be!

That’s the phrase that greets you when landing at Prat de Llobregat airport in Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia. The primary language for all signs is Catalan, as the region enjoys the autonomy granted by the government to reassert the sense of national identity that was deliberately eroded during the authoritarian rule of General Franco. No need to panic though, because every sign also has an English translation, with the Spanish information relegated to third place. I flew to Barcelona with Easyjet last weekend (a flying visit with the primary aim of seeing a match at the Nou Camp, if you hadn’t already guessed!), and hazy memories of a chaotic time at Alicante airport many years ago combined with some vague stereotyping of the Spanish way of life to make me expect a jumbled mess of an airport. However, the terminals ...

Viva Barcelona!

Advantages: Great shops, clean and spacious, good signs
Disadvantages: Can be slow to queue for things...

Barcelona – capital of the Spanish province of Catalonia and one of the airports serving the popular Costa Brava as well as the bustling, historic city of Barcelona. Have flown into Barcelona roughly 5 times in the last copula of years and have had no serious problems or complaints with it. Prat de Llobregat airport has three large, spacious terminals – A (long haul and EU destinations - most of the budget airlines fly into here), B (EU destinations – most of the budget airlines fly into here) and C (mainly domestic flights) A and B are next door to one another whilst C is a short shuttle bus journey away. Most of the car hire companies can be found in terminal B, in my experience. Each terminal has all the usual facilities – check in desks, cafes, tourist information, bureau de change, car hire ...

Function over Fashion

Advantages: It's not Liverpool. It has shops and restaurants and what not.
Disadvantages: It's not Manchester. It only has some shops and restaurants and what not.

We flew to Barcelona ergo we landed at Barcelona airport, and it was quite nice. Not very nice, mind you. But nice enough. ** Terminals ** There are 3 terminals here, imaginatively named A, B and C. Typically speaking, terminal A is for long haul and European destinations, terminal B for EU flights and Terminal C for domestic services although there is a little overlap. We were terminal A people for our stay and while not struck down by its impressiveness, it was quite adequate. ** Landside ** Here we have check in desks, toilets, a café, a bureaux de change and information desks. Not much but then most people will be flying, so get to progress on to... ** Middleside ** I would say airside, but it wasn’t really – that came later. Here there were tons of shops selling everything from chocolate to ...
