A hotel with a split personality

Advantages: good location, good transport connections.
Disadvantages: irish "pub" restuarant, a bit noisey

. Dining -------- This is where The Phoenix gets a split personality. You enter the dining room from the lobby, the large oak door has a gaelic shield with "The Dubliner" the Irish Pub. Now imagine walking out of your chinzy hotel into an Irish Pub for your meal. The Bar was packed, it seemed that Washington's young and trendy like this format. We waited to be seated in the bar, and were about to turn tail and find something a little more refined when. "Hello Sir, how are we today" Gulp. The restaurant was busy as well, large groups had pulled tables together and we were offered a table for two in a corner. Hotel Arts Barcelona

Advantages: Ideally located on the sea front and boasts pure oppulence
Disadvantages: Most popular hotel in Barcelona and availability can be difficult to secure

Probably considered to be one of the best hotels - if not, the bes hotel - in Europe. It's modern contemporary style boasts pure elegance from the moment you step inside, particularly on entry to the first floor reception, which steps out onto a beautiful lawn, overlooking the sea, under the shadow of a large copper moument, which I do believe represents a fish. The hotel rooms come with all the latest mod-cons and electonic gadgetary, from Bang and Olufsen music centres and televisions, to the electronically controlled blinds. I was fortunate enough to stay in a suite on the 18th floor, with grand views across Barcelona from the harbour up towards the mountains in the distance. The Art (Of Forgetting A Clothes Peg)

Advantages: Centrally placed with reasonable room rates. Nice staff. Well furnished
Disadvantages: Area never totally quiet - get a room at the back. No immediately obvious disabled facilities

When I wrote about my experiences in Lisbon a few months back, I was taken to task for spending too much time describing the hotel, so this time, things are going to be a little different. With a distinct sense of trepidation I'm going to write about a hotel as a stand-alone item for the first time ever, quaking at the thought of my opinion being compared to one by Ciao's very own 'unpaid hotel inspector', Uncle Bill's nephew himself, Richada! I've just got back from 5 very enjoyable nights in Athens (and the days weren't bad either!). Part of what made it enjoyable was our stay at The Art Hotel, Marni Street 27, Athens. To be honest, it would be difficult to describe how to get there from the airport as we'd pre-booked a taxi, which ended up stuck in horrendous Monday night traffic, made worse by an obliging perfectly ...
