A rare find - a quiet hotel in New Delhi

Advantages: Calm professional staff, quiet setting
Disadvantages: If you can't get it at a bargain rate, it's not worth the price.

Ciao must despair of some of us members and the near-geological timescale we seem to work on. I requested this hotel over three years ago and have finally got around to writing about it. Proof at last that if I'm given long enough I'll eventually get round to almost anything. When and Why? We visited Delhi at the beginning and end of a tour to Ladakh, high up in the Himalaya range. Ladakh is at such high altitude that you really can only sensibly go in the summer months and since there's no option other than to go through Delhi to get there, that's an absolutely dreadful time to be in the city in terms of the heat, but a fantastic time to get a bargain on a hotel deal. The Metropolitan was one of our summer bargains. My love for Delhi I love Delhi and nothing gives me more pleasure than to stay a few days in this ...

One of the world's best hotels - in Delhi!

Advantages: A landmark hotel
Disadvantages: It's a long way from home

Lutyens - the architect between the creation of New Delhi. The architectural style is described as a blend of Victorian, Old Colonial and a dash of Art Deco. SBS Ranjit Singh's motor car is still parked outside the hotel and, if my photos upload properly, it should be included in the pictures at the end of the review. What did it cost and how did we book? ******************************** We paid $220 (approx £120) for one night at The Imperial. This rate was for an 'Imperial Room' (the smallest and least expensive option) and included breakfast for two as well as airport transfers on arrival and departure. As we weren't going back to the airport, they gave us a car to take us to our next hotel instead without any quibbling. Bearing in mind that most hotels will charge a minimum of 1000-2000 Rupees (about £12-£25) for airport pick up, this ...

The Tibetan Art of Living

Advantages: Good food for thought and quite inspiring
Disadvantages: Calls for a leap of faith..

The Tibetan Art of Living is not usually a book I would read, but I picked it up in a New Age shop on a recent visit to Glastonbury. After skimming through it a few paragraphs intrigued me. I tend to be a rather sceptical person, but I keep open minded about subjects preferring to EXPERIENCE truth rather than conceptualise it. Before going any further in the review of this book, let me try to explain? I see an experience as something that is absolute truth - you know it because you experience it. On the hand, a belief is something that may or may not be true. I see it like this? Books generate beliefs, and truth will either be realised or not realised by what you experience after digesting the content of a book and "looking" for yourself. What follows are the feelings that were generated in me as a result of reading this ...
