>>>> LOCATION <<<< The hotel is situated in Coral Bay which is about a 10 min drive from Paphos. The hotel is quite a bit out of the way so to get around it is better to hire a car. It's a very quiet town containing only a few hotels, villas, a crazy golf course and one street of shops and restaurants. I did like Coral Bay itself as it was a very quiet and relaxing place, but this is not the place to go if you are looking for a lively action packed holiday! The hotel is situated at the coral beach and has some wonderful views over the water. (Please note this is not really a beach, as it's very rocky with no sand!).
>>>>First Impressions<<<< When we first arrived we both really liked the look of the hotel. The hotel from the outside looked very modern and the reception area made the hotel look like a 4 star plus, because it was so big with marble floors and the reception staff were very helpful.
>>>>The Rooms<<<< When we first entered our room the disappointment kicked in. The room was a good size with a dressing table and a good sized wardrobe, there was also laminate flooring which looked like it had only been down for a few months, however it also looked like it had never been cleaned for a few months! It was filthy, covered in dust and hair. We then had a look at the bathroom, this was worse. There were cracked tiles and dirt all over the toilet seat, however we didn't complain as I really don't like complaining! Now on to the balcony and the view! We paid extra for a side sea view room, well when we walked out on to our balcony we had been put away in a corner which looked out on to the entertainment stage, we could hardly see the sea at all! But again we never complained, I just wanted to try and enjoy our holiday. It was eventually on our second day there that we complained for the first time as we had a cockroach in our room. We saw it at about 9pm so we went straight to reception to ask to be moved rooms as I thought our room must be dirty. The reception staff were not helpful at all and said we'd have to wait until the next morning as there's nothing they could do until a manager was in!! We ended up sleeping in our room that night with all the lights on so the roaches wouldn't come out! The next day we were upgraded to a room with a sea view, so we thought it might be a bit better. We were wrong! One advantage was that there were no cockroaches, however it was still dirty. Again the bathroom had cracked tiles and this time instead of dirty laminate flooring there was a dirty carpet which needed a good hoover and a clean as it had stains all over it.
>>>>The Food<<<< This was one thing we did like about this hotel. There was always a good range of food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Breakfast had all the usual sausages, bacon and eggs and also a selection of cereals and fruit. Lunch was always a pretty good buffet as was dinner. However, we heard a lot of people complaining about the food as they felt it was too repetitive and plain. We quite like plain food though so this suited us well. They served a lot of pasta, salad and a lot of potatoes, there was also a carvery with various meats. We thought there was plenty to choose from.
>>>>Drinks<<<< We went all inclusive to this hotel so all of our drink was included. There was quite a few beer and wine pumps located around the hotel so people could help themselves, however they were empty most of the time! So we ended up having to wait in ques at the bar. There was quite a lot of choice with local spirits, beer, wine and cocktails.
>>>>Staff<<<< We found most of the staff quite unhelpful and not very friendly. As I've siad before the reception staff were not helpful when we needed our room changed, and when we eventually spoke to a manager the next day they explained to us that it is a hot country so we had to expect to get insects such as cockroaches!! We were horrified to say the least and demanded a room change. Cleaners, bar tenders and waiters were also quite rude. One night when we went into the restaurant we stood waiting on a table for a while because the waiters were just ignoring us, Our plates were also sometimes lifted before we were even finished our meal! On another occasion we entered the restaurant to hear a waiter screaming and shouting at a chef.
>>>>Things to Do<<<< As I said before Coral Bay itself is really quiet but there are still some things to do. There is a water sports centre just down from the hotel where you can jet ski and go on the banana boat. There is a crazy golf course near to the shops which is also quite fun. However it would perhaps be better to travel into Paphos if you're looking for more activities as Coral Bay doesn't really have that much to offer.
Overall this hotel is not worthy of a 4 star rating, it is more like a 3 star. We enjoyed our holiday and thought Coral Bay was a lovely little place, but we will not return. I am just so glad we only booked to go here for a week and not 2 because I don't think we could have lasted! This hotel has actually put us off Cyprus for life which is a shame because I've spoken to so many people that love it, maybe one day we will be brave and return to Cyprus, only next time we will stay at a different hotel!
Advantages: Quiet, relaxing Disadvantages: Very much one for the Brits
Just returned from this hotel after a two week all-inclusive holiday. The total cost was about £2000 for two of us for two weeks. This was our first time at a child-free hotel (the Ascos does not allow any children under the age of 16 until the end of October) the difference was quite astounding - more of that later.
The Ascos Beach is in Coral Bay - a small-ish resort just outside Paphos (takes about half an hour by bus, including all the stops ... ...20 minutes or so) that only costs 80c per person one way.
A 5 minute walk from the hotel is Coral Bay resort, basically one road with restaurants, shops and a couple of banks. This leads down to Coral Bay Beach - a man-made beach with hundreds of sunbeds, two cafes and a carpark. We went to have a look and that was all - it wasn't worth staying. The beaches around Paphos are realyy not much to write home about - mostly pebble or rock. Although this ...

Advantages: Close to beach, peaceful , no children, close to bars Disadvantages: Shingle beach by hotel.
We stayed at the Ascos Coral beach Hotel ,Cyprus, in June 2009. The hotel, during the summer months is for adults only, which if your are on a relaxing holiday makes a big difference. Once you enter the hotel you can notice straight away that there are no children running around, its very peaceful. The hotel is around half an hour drive from the airport at Paphos. It is located on the coast and has a pathway down to a shingle beach which to be honest we did not use as it was a bit awkward to walk along. The shops, not many mind, and the bars are about a five minutes walk. If you want to go to the coral bay beach it would take you around 15 minutes to walk there at the most, and to drive there it would take around 1 minute. The beach does have the usual amenities like being pulled by a speed boat and pedalos.
The hotel itself is very ...
