Location
The Asia Bangkok Hotel is centrally located and is near to Bangkok's main attractions. It is about a 15 minute journey from the airport making it a convenient hotel to stay in if you are only in Bangkok for a few days.
Price
We paid £980 per person for three nights in Bangkok and eight nights in Ko Samui which I found to be fairly reasonable considering the flights are long haul. We stayed at the Asia Bangkok on a bed and breakfast basis.
Arrival And Check In
We were greeted by the very friendly staff once our taxi arrived at the hotel. I must admit that we were kept waiting for about 10 minutes before we were allowed to check in which was a bit of a pain as we were quite tired after our flights! When we did check in, we had to fill out several forms with passport details and bank details etc so check in took a little longer than I would have liked but this wasn't really a problem. Once we were checked in, a porter took us and our luggage to our room.
The Room
When we arrived in our room, the porter showed us around. Our room was classed as a double and it certainly was. There was a large double bed in the middle of the room with clean smelling bed sheets which were white and pink checked. Each side of the bed had two plump pillows with extras in the wardrobe if you needed them. In the room, there was a TV with certain satellite channels including an in house movie channel, 2 large wardrobes, two chest of drawers, a safe, a hairdryer and an air conditioning unit. Near the window there was a writing desk and two armchairs.
The marble bathroom was clean and spacious and inside, there was a full length bath and a power shower. There was a huge mirror in the bathroom which had a sink and dressing table area in front of it. There was plenty of room by the sinks to store all the toiletries that we had taken with us.
We were provided with fresh, clean towels every day and these were left on the towel rail in the bathroom. If you required new towels each day, you were asked to leave them on the floor in the bathroom, but if you were happy to keep the towels you already had then you were asked to leave them on the towel rails.
Unfortunately, our room did not have a balcony but this is not unusual for a large City hotel. We were on the 16th floor and from our window, we had some stunning views across the City of Bangkok. It would have been nice to have a balcony but it wasn't the end of the world. One thing we did notice was that there were no windows which opened in our room which was a shame as we were both smokers at the time and there was nowhere for the smoke to escape meaning our room and belongings smelt smoky and stale.
The rooms are cleaned to a high standard with the bed linen being changed every day.
Sky train
One thing that has to be mentioned when talking about the Asia Bangkok hotel is that it has a direct connection to the Sky train which runs across Bangkok. The Asia Bangkok hotel is only one stop away from the main central station of Bangkok. The Sky train connection is on the second floor of the hotel and leads you directly onto the platform where you can wait for your train.
Facilities
The Asia Bangkok has plenty of facilities including five restaurants, a lounge, a Gym, Jacuzzi, Sauna, Massage and plenty more services such as car rental, laundry service and room service.
We briefly visited the Gym which looked to be clean and well equipped and the sauna and Jacuzzi was clean and didn't seem very busy which was nice.
The restaurants serve a range of cuisines including Japanese, Chinese, traditional Thai food and many more. We ate in the restaurant on the second floor and although the food was fairly tasty, the menu was in Thai and we were unable to understand a lot of it. I always tend to have these problems when I go on holiday and because I am vegetarian, I always need to check what I am ordering.
There was a coffee shop which is in the main lobby of the hotel, this also served snacks such as toasted sandwiches and omelettes which were a reasonable price.
Swimming Pool
There is a swimming pool which is located on the 12th floor of the hotel. With the Asia Bangkok being a city hotel, we found that the pool area was extremely quiet with no other guests in this area (which was lovely!). There are plenty of sun loungers laid out near the pool area. The pool was a decent size with the Jacuzzi being located on a raised platform at the far end of the pool.
In Conclusion
I would certainly recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to visit Bangkok. The location of this hotel is exceptional and we found it really useful discovering Bangkok from here. I thought that the décor of the room could have been better but it was clean and we couldn't really complain, I just felt it would have looked more attractive if it had been modernised slightly.
As I already mentioned, we ate in one of the restaurants and also had snacks and drinks at the coffee shop and we found that the prices were very reasonable.
