Auckland City

Advantages: Great place to see views of city
Disadvantages: It is a city and New Zealand is so much more beautiful to go rural

General over view: Auckland was my first destination when I arrived in New Zealand, traveling into the city and seeing the Sky Tower for the first time was really cool, I remember thinking I made it! I am really here!! The City is big but easy to get around using the tram system they have in place. It is a very clean and friendly city, if you don't have long I would recommend a couple of days here. The Sky Tower is the main thing to see and do and is a great place to get great views, I also recommend taking a ferry trip to one of the near by islands. A great hint and tip for you is to take the Stray Bus free city tour, this was great to see what Auckland has to offer you, and you can book onto the tour through your hostel. They pick you up from the hostel and first take you to the Sky Tower, here they will ask if anyone wants to ...

A great place to stay in Aspen - L'auberge d'Aspen

Advantages: Cute, well equipped, cheap
Disadvantages: Won't be available for much longer

Ever since I was a small child, I always loved to construct play houses - whether it was camping in the garden, making a mock-home in my granddad's garage or building a tent out of an old sheet and a couple of clothes driers, it was something that always made me happy. As I got older, my ambitions increased and I yearned for a beach hut (despite living about as far from the sea as it's possible to be in the UK) and eventually my husband bought me a 'log cabin' for the garden. So when I discovered that our 'room' at the l'Auberge d'Aspen wasn't a room, but a brightly painted little cabin, I was like a kid again - thrilled to bits. But before going on to describe our little cabin, perhaps a bit about Aspen and why we found ourselves there. At the end of February, I handed in my notice at work and told the boss I was off to pastures new ...

Auckland

Advantages: everything within easy access, friendly people, great atmosphere, plenty to do.
Disadvantages: becoming a victim of its own popularity.

Those who just pass through Auckland on their way to the thrills on offer in the rest of the country don't know what they are missing. Auckland has it all - beautiful beaches, mountain ranges, volcanoes for the nature lovers, and fabulous restaurants and night life for the more outgoing. I meant to spend just a few days there whilst I found my feet but ended staying for four months, then returned again after seeing the rest of the country and spent another year there. On arrival there are plenty of places to stay, suiting all budgets. I started off in the YHA hostels at the top of Queen Street, which are much quieter than many of the others situated downtown. I quickly found like-minded people and found a place to rent for a reasonable price - if you need an agency there are a few on K-Road. Nice places to live which are close to ...
