Musee du Louvre

Advantages: Only place to see the Mona Lisa
Disadvantages: Very busy all the time

Musee du Louvre (Louvre Museum) Background The Louvre is the most visited and one of the oldest, largest and most famous art galleries and museums in the world. The first royal ?Castle of the Louvre? was founded in what was then the western edge of Paris by Philip Augustus in 1190, as a fortified royal palace to defend Paris on its west against Plantagenet attacks. The first building in the existing Louvre was begun in 1535, after demolition of the Old Castle (foundations of the Old Castle are now an exhibition). The architect Pierre Lescot introduced to Paris the new design vocabulary of the Renaissance, which had been developed in the chateaux of the Loire. During his reign (1589 ? 1610), King Henry IV added the Grande Galerie. Henry IV, a promoter of the arts, invited hundreds of artists and craftsmen to live and work ...

Le musee DU Louvre

Advantages: its the louvre for goodness sake! you HAVE to see it before you die
Disadvantages: heating pretty poor, alot to see so need to really take time out for it

I went to paris recently with some friends for a little break. I was going to write a review on paris but as I begun it I realised it Impossible to sum up the city in a short review.. or even a long one. So instead I will write reviews of places I went and things I did while in paris.... The louvre sits proudly in central paris and has a history spanning 800 years. Built originally in 1190 as a fort to protect the wealthiest city in europe (known as christendom at the time) from invaders. It later went onto become a home to king;s and princes and in opened it doors as a museum in 1882 dedicated to art, archeology and culture from all over the world. We were stunned at the sheer size of this museum and it is only comparable in size to the Queen's Palaces I saw on a previous trip to Beijing. The glass pyramids which stands in the middle ...

Review of The Louvre Museum

Paris on a budget. The Louvre

Advantages: beautiful
Disadvantages: hot

Paris on a budget - The Louvre. If you are unfamiliar with the story so far, myself and my good lady wife were fortunate enough to be able to go for a holiday in Paris this summer. We are, however, not the wealthiest of sorts. That meant we had to work within a strict budget, yet we did not want to miss out on the culture and flair of the capital. Having previously done reviews on a really excellent little hotel called the hotel londres et anvers, which was a snip at about £160 for the three nights. And also reviewing the Pere lachaise cemetery (which was excellent value, costing exactly nothing.). I thought a review of the most famous museum in the world was in the offing. On the first evening in Paris, we decided to get a train down to the city centre. If nothing else we just wanted to get our bearings for the first days ...
