Antique Anoraks

Advantages: now a clean and rather quiet city
Disadvantages: we couldn't find any in the short time we stayed there

...the outskirts to the centre. Athens proper isn't a very big city, it has only 750 000 inhabitants, but one can't notice where the city begins and ends, what appears to be one city is a conurbation of several independent cities and towns with a population of approximately four million people, more than one third of the Greek population lives there. It was only after WW2 that Athens began to grow or rather to explode as people migrated from the villages ...
...Games in 2004 for which Athens was completely overhauled. Athens wanted to have the centenary Olympic Games in 1996 but didn't get them because the environmental and infrastructure problems were too great. Should you know Athens from before the Olympic Games in 2004 and found the city ugly and un-livable then, think again or better: come again, it's really nice now. The traffic seems civilised to an observer, it's fast but there isn't any unnecessary ...

Acropolis (Athens)

Advantages: There you can see greate architectural sculptures, you can discover wich was the most important greeks Gods
Disadvantages: It is a problem if you travel with a bus because it is very tiresome

Acropolis! Acropolis! Acropolis! but what is Acropolis? A city?,a building? Actually it is a hill. This is maybe the most important place in Athen. Why ? Because the monument from acropole show us the greatness of this ancient culture.Because here appeared "TheOlympic fairy tale" . When I was 9 years old I went with my step father to Greece. His brother live there and we decided to spend our sumer there.I can't remember exactly the main events because ...
...interested in the beach than that stones. However that trip made me be interested in Greek culture so I will give you some informations.Acropole was the place where was born the democracy. The most important buildings are (Parthenon,Erechtheion,Temple of Nike,Propylaea) Ok! Ok! I will stop here because I can't translate all these names into english and you can look for these information on the internet.I think that if somebody want to visit the Acropole ...

Don't forget the Erechtheion

Advantages: Wonderful monument, spectacular views.
Disadvantages: Hot, busy.

The Erechtheion is the most sacred of the ancient temples. It was the last of the great works of Pericles. Athena and Poseidon were worshipped here. Poseidon who was the city's old patron was also known as Erechtheus. According to legend, the Erechtheion was the site on which Athena and Poseidon held a contest to see who would posses Athens. Athena won and at the touch of her spear the first ever olive tree appeared from the ground. The Erechtheion ...
...and from most of Central Athens it is the monument that one can see. Until I actually went up to the Acropolis, I assumed that this was probably The Parthenon. When you actually get to see both monuments, it is very clear that the Erechtheion is rather dwarfed by its older cousin. However, it is less visited, under less scaffolding, and more accessible than the Parthenon itself. It truly is a wonderful building. At night the Erechtheion is beautifully ...

And Not A Flying Horse In Sight!!!

Advantages: New, Clean
Disadvantages: Poor Implication of new security rules

...was built with the 2004 Athens Olympics in mind and unlike a lot of the infrastructure for these games, was actually opened before the games in March 2001, replacing the previous international airport. As the crow flies, it is quite close to the city of Athens but due to the hills surrounding the city, it is nearer a 30km drive to the centre. There is a direct train line that will take you to the city centre (something that apparently wasn't ready ...
...If you are flying to Athens (as I will again in a couple of months) then you will have no choice but to go through this airport and will probably not have any problems. However, all it takes is one or two annoyances to lead to a bad review and that is what happened to me! ...

SUMMER LOVE IN ATHENS

Advantages: atmosphere-cheap night out!
Disadvantages: -

Cinemas in Athens are really nice, especially during the summer! In Greece we have two types of cinemas, the winter-spring ones and the summer ones. The first are run from begining of September until end of May and the summer ones from end of May until end of August. The unique thing about the summer ones is that are open roof!!!open blue Greek sky!!!! it's a kind of magic! the atmosphere is really nice you will see families, couples, friends. You ...
...them because they are open seasonal they came very near to close some years ago but now most of them are council sponsored or big companies like nescafe aabora. The ticket is very cheap £3 and in the bar you can find everything from beer to nachos! also in very good prices. So next time you are back in Greece ask for your nearest summer cinema ,treat yourself with a nice ice-cream and enjoy the movie and the stars!!!! ...
