Acropolis (Athens)
Review of Acropolis (Athens) by gladiator27

Advantages: There you can see greate architectural sculptures, you can discover wich was the most important greeks Gods
Disadvantages: It is a problem if you travel with a bus because it is very tiresome

Acropolis! Acropolis! Acropolis! but what is Acropolis? A city?,a building? Actually it is a hill. This is maybe the most important place in Athen. Why ? Because the monument from acropole show us the greatness of this ancient culture.Because here appeared "TheOlympic fairy tale" . When I was 9 years old I went with my step father to Greece. His brother live there and we decided to spend our sumer there.I can't remember exactly the main events because ...
...interested in the beach than that stones. However that trip made me be interested in Greek culture so I will give you some informations.Acropole was the place where was born the democracy. The most important buildings are (Parthenon,Erechtheion,Temple of Nike,Propylaea) Ok! Ok! I will stop here because I can't translate all these names into english and you can look for these information on the internet.I think that if somebody want to visit the Acropole ... Read review

...the outskirts to the centre. Athens proper isn't a very big city, it has only 750 000 inhabitants, but one can't notice where the city begins and ends, what appears to be one city is a conurbation of several independent cities and towns with a population of approximately four million people, more than one third of the Greek population lives there. It was only after WW2 that Athens began to grow or rather to explode as people migrated from the villages ...
...Games in 2004 for which Athens was completely overhauled. Athens wanted to have the centenary Olympic Games in 1996 but didn't get them because the environmental and infrastructure problems were too great. Should you know Athens from before the Olympic Games in 2004 and found the city ugly and un-livable then, think again or better: come again, it's really nice now. The traffic seems civilised to an observer, it's fast but there isn't any unnecessary ... Read review

The Maiden's Apartment
Review of Parthenon (Athens) by MAFARRIMOND

Advantages: Historical Monument, magnificent structure
Disadvantages: Surrounded by scaffolding and people

The Parthenon is the most impressive and important monument in Athens. Representative of the Golden Age of 5th Century Athens, the Parthenon tops the Acropolis. And so, it is here, that I will begin my reviews on Greece. As part of my studies for my diploma and degree in Classic Studies, 5th Century Athens had occupied a large proportion of the work. We planned a tour of mainland classical Greece combined with a five-day stay on the island of Corfu. ...
...includes a guided tour. The Parthenon can then be viewed at liberty. The Parthenon dominates the Acropolis, situated on the highest point and rising to massive proportions. It stands 101 feet tall and is 228 feet long. Although now in ruins, it retains a magnificent that is awesome. The effect, sadly is somewhat spoiled by scaffolding that surrounds the exterior as protective work is being undertaken. The Parthenon has an extraordinary history. ... Read review

A place to be
Review of Athens City Museum by kkjc9734

Advantages: located in the city centre
Disadvantages: sometimes very crowded

The national museum in Athens is one of the best museums in Greece, where a visitor can see the antiquities of the ancient Greek world and not only. As an archaeologist the Athens museum was and still is a great school for me and helped me learn various things studying on its exhibits. The numerous collections from the Prehistoric, Bronze, Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic and Roman Age impress every single visitor. Many great and famous exhibits ...
...them. The museum in Athens is the best place to be, especially for those who are keen on exloring and learning the past in any level. Pictures are allowed in most areas but staff can be very strict for those who do not respect the exhibits. Guided tours are also available, this is very important for visitors who want to get the most out of it. If you are visiting Athens for the first time, remember to see the exact sites in the city, where all ... Read review

A fantastic concert venue
Review of Lycabetus Hill (Athens) by Emmanuel2005

Advantages: Easy to get to, great views, great concerts and events
Disadvantages: Can't think of any!

Lycabetus Hill is one of the main hills surrounding Athens city centre. If you have allowed yourself some time to see Athens and are not immediately sailing off to an island (unfortunately, many people skip the city altogether), I can highly recommend catching a concert here. Perhaps surprisingly for some people, a lot of big names have played here in the last few months and years including Moby, Duran Duran, Pink Floyd. Why do they come? Because ...
...air. The seating is arranged in a sort of Greek semi-circular ampitheatre, using a large metal structure, bolted together. The cheapest seats are in the back, but don't be afraid to go for these because the view is breathtaking - not only do you get a great view of the performance, but you also get fantastic views over Athens by night. There are drinks and snack on offer, but why not take along your own chilled bottle of wine and a few glasses, sit ... Read review
