Having seen most of the major sites of Athens in the first couple of days in the city, I have to admit that the prospect of visiting a museum didn't rank highly on the list of things that I wanted to do. However, with my friend that we were visiting working in the afternoon, we needed something to do that would last just a few hours.
The Benaki Museum is based to the north-west corner of the national gardens and is about halfway between the stations of Syntagma and Evangelimos on the Athens Metro. If you are walking then it is not a long stroll from the centre of the city and it is a nice walk through the gardens where you can easily get lost for a few hours seeing things such as wild tortoises.

Ok, it is not the most beautiful city of the world. Greece is great, but Athens is not beautiful. It is very interesting though. Akropolis and Parthenon, surrounded by the old town of Plaka, are the most important reasons for visiting athens. Whilst on Akropolis, you can see the whole city underneath. Reading and learning about the history of the town is fascinating!!!
The National Museum is one of the best museums i have ever seen. It would be better though if you had a guide with you ,because the most interesting thing is the story that lies behind every exhibit.
Sunio is a lovely place to go too, the temple of Apollo is a wonderful architectural structure.
And of course, don't forget to see Athens by ...
