Can't beat the location
Advantages: central location, friendly desk people, rooftop bar Disadvantages: cramped lobby, small rooms, slow lifts
In 2001 my family and I (at that time sons were aged 17, 15, 10) stayed several nights in the Attalos, taking 2 adjacent rooms. We were pleased to be just steps away from Monastiraki (with flea market and underground station) to the south, Omonia Square to the north and Syntagma Square to the east.
The front desk staff were brilliant -- the night clerk could speak Arabic which was fun. The only minus here was the cramped lobby which meant that getting ... ...bit of a push.
The view from the rooftop bar of the Acropolis is super; it's one of the best places in the city to have a drink and reflect on how the day's gone.
I've stayed in Athens as a tourist (and also worked and lived there for 4 years) since 1968 and this is clearly my favourite hotel. ...

The Art (Of Forgetting A Clothes Peg)
Advantages: Centrally placed with reasonable room rates. Nice staff. Well furnished Disadvantages: Area never totally quiet - get a room at the back. No immediately obvious disabled facilities
...was our stay at The Art Hotel, Marni Street 27, Athens.
To be honest, it would be difficult to describe how to get there from the airport as we'd pre-booked a taxi, which ended up stuck in horrendous Monday night traffic, made worse by an obliging perfectly-timed cloud-burst.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Once at the door, which is on a street corner, you are confronted by a half of a flight of steps, there being no other obvious way in (I could see no sign ... ...the bloody word.
The Art Hotel only really has two tariffs; a room rate with or without breakfast. Of course, some of its 30-odd rooms cost more than others and suites are available. Our room was a typical twin-bedded affair, and we had booked breakfasts for a total of 105€/night, via the hotel's own website which given the very central location in a capital city is pretty good for the level of comfort supplied.
Other facilities not tested were ...

Plaka Hotel, Athens
Advantages: Position, Price Disadvantages: Basic (but plentiful) breakfast
The Plaka Hotel is a real find. It is ideally situated at the foot of the Acropolis and is amongst ,or within easy walking distance, of many of Athens attractions. It is on the corner of a small side street just a hundred yards or so from the metro station that is at the end of the line from the airport. Some bedrooms do have a direct view to the Acropolis.
The hotel staff are friendly and helpful and the accomodation is generally clean and modern. ... ...If you do go to Athens try eating in the Plaka area of the city-its great for sitting over a leisurely lunch - quite a few of the restaurants have easy chairs outside so you can eat, lounge and people watch away an hour or so in comfort. ...

And the last but not least of my three day staying in Exarchion hotel, that it will take me again to this hotel, is the orange submarine takeaway shop close to the hotel that had the best pizza i 've ever eaten. ...
