A great hotel in a great location. Advantages: Luxurious but not over the top. Disadvantages: mini bar prices The Hilton hotel in Athens is a huge structure in a fantastic location for people visiting Athens, 1.7 miles from the city centre. It is a short taxi ride from the airport (about 20 minutes) and is great for those on business or just there to soak up the culture of the city. The main entrance to the hotel is a sweeping drive taking you round to the front door. When you arrive (whether by taxi or in a rental car), the car door is opened for you, and ... ...for bags to be taken to your room, although we did not use this service. After walking into the Hilton you realise that you are in a posh hotel. The jewelry shop sells rolex and bulgari watches. From the foyer, lifts take you up to one of the 12 floors. From my hotel room on the 5th floor I had a clear view of the Acropolis which was a bonus. The hotel has recently been refurbished in a simple modern style which is highly aesthetically pleasing. ... Live The Luxury! Advantages: Too many. Everything!!! Disadvantages: None ...days I spend in the Metropolitan Hotel, they were far away from fantastic, they were WOW :- ), yes I repeat my self. But can you imagine everyone treating you as a royalty? But if you walk on Syngrou Avenue and you look up, you'll face the hall and actual size of Metropolitan which has a beautiful stainless steel appearance in a model minimalist design. To be recommended Advantages: Location and staff Disadvantages: Cost ...We would definitely recommend the Electra Palace to anyone. The reception area is like a chic gallery. Probably a complete waste of space, but beautiful and welcoming nonetheless. The air conditioning is a godsend in the summer heat. Breakfast was excellent. The cornflakes were real, the fruit juice was real and even the milk was real and not UHT rubbish. I don't know what it is about the Med, but it's not often we find these 'real' items on offer, ... ...room was tea and coffee making facilities. Perhaps that's just an English thing, but it would have been welcome, especially given the price we were paying per night. The hotel's location was perfect for us. Unlike other hotels that announce their closeness to a particular landmark only to have you walking for miles to actually get there, this hotel really is as close as it says to the Acropolis. Divani Palace - expensive but comfortable Advantages: Food, views, rooms Disadvantages: Full of Yanks, expensive An expensive hotel, although included in some package deals more cheaply. It is a real luxury, with views to the Acropolis (5 minutes away), and only a 10 minute walk to Plaka, the main eating and tourist district. A shuttle service runs to Syntagma Square, bringing you right into the centre of town without the short walk. The hotel itself has air-conditioning, a medium sized swimming pool with sunbeds and spacious marble seating areas. The rooms ... ...usual freebie soaps in the bathroom. Breakfast is huge, a buffet both cooked and plain, with hash browns plainly catering for the copious Americans who stay here during a tour. The hotel is nice, but not really worth its prices. It is much cheaper from tour operators, who get a reasonable price. ... Wow! Advantages: location, comfort, bar & restaurant, staff Disadvantages: nothing The location of the Hotel Rio, Athens is great! From the bus/train stops, everywhere is within walking distance. The hotel was great, the service was perfect, the rooms were very clean and the metro station "Metaxourghio" was next door!!!! We had a splendid buffet breakfast in the morning and the Greek and Italian food that we ate in the restaurant downstairs was very delicious. All the hotel staff was multilingual and very helpfull.
