I've tried to revise this op to make it more specific, so I have split into three categories :- Location, Acommodation and General
LOCATION We have stayed at the Atlanta on Rembrandtplein on more than one occasion. We love it as it is so close to everything, the floating flower market and main shopping area are within 3 or 4 minutes walk. There are great pubs, restaurants and a nightclub on the doorstep. Next to the entrance to the hotel there are cafes with outdoor seating which is a lovely way to spend a couple of hours just absorbing the atmosphere. Leidseplein and the Museums are within a 10 - 15 minutes walk. The trams stop on Rembrandplein Square itself if you don't fancy walking.. The locals gather in the cafes on the square on a Sunday morning, it is a very popular spot. If you choose to catch the tram from Amsterdam Centraal Station, you need to catch a 4 or a 9 and get off at Rembrandtplein. A taxi from the stations costs approximately 10 euros.
Access to the hotel is via a fairly wide but steep set of stairs, as far as I'm aware this is the only access into the Hotel, so I'm unsure as to it's suitability to people who are less mobile. The rooms are also on more than one floor and there isn't a lift.
The rooms are split into the following categories:-
Basic Room: Shared Bathroom Standard Room: With private facilities Deluxe Room: Private facilities and a Jacuzzi Grand Deluxe: Private Sauna + Loo
We have always stayed in a "Standard Room" which has always had a good comfy double bed, somewhere to sit and read, tea and coffee making facilities and basic toiletries in a clean and modern bathroom.
If you are booking I would highly recommend asking for a room at the front of the hotel as these are large and have windows opening onto the square, we stayed in one of the rooms at the back once and it quite small and cramped.
Breakfast is "Continental" and quite basic consisting of breads, conserves, cheeses and Hams. Breakfast is held is a communal room which has large picture windows overlooking Rembrandtplein, it's quite basically furnished, however everything is very clean and the staff are very helpful. We have always had breakfast included, but if you go room only there is a MacDonalds round the corner and for the more health conscious there is a shop selling cartons of freshly prepared pick and mix fruit for about 3 - 4 euros a punnet. Unfornately it only seems to be open in the warmer months.
GENERAL The Atlanta is classed as a 2 * Hotel and is offered regularly on Internet Hotel sites at varying prices. We have always paid between £50 and £70 night, including breakfast. The price does vary quite a lot, we have always paid a higher rate for staying Friday & Saturday nights. I have always used the same dutch online booking company (hotel bookings nl) and found them to be reliable and competitive, especially if booking late.
This is not a Deluxe, clinical chain style hotel, but the location and friendly service make it a winner for us.
I think thi is a great op, made me want to go, lol.
