Advantages: Beautiful, charming, sophisticated beach resort Disadvantages: Other than getting there - none really.
You may notice from my 'ciao' name that I have some interest in Búzios and this is because it is my second home, or to be more precise, my holiday home as we own a holiday house there and our family visit every year. I therefore feel well qualified to comment on it as a holiday destination and will try not to be too biased.
Búzios (the town's full name is Armação de Búzios) sits on the tip of a long, beach-rich peninsula jutting out into the clear blue Atlantic just 2 hours drive north of Rio de Janeiro.
Until the 1960s Búzios was a small, sleepy fishing village. Then Brigitte Bardot stumbled upon it's sandy beaches in 1964, and in the years since the little town has used the publicity to turn itself into one of Brazil's top beach resorts. On summer holiday weekends the town is packed with Brazilians on vacation, many Carioca ...
Advantages: Good location, all inclusive, jmc reps great Disadvantages: ants, sewage smell and in need of upgrading
tell you about this because this is one thing I heard a lot of people commenting about at the Atlantico playa. The smell of sewage was quite a regular occurance. Like I have already mentioned it was the first thing I noticed about the place (Which isn't really good for first impressions). You could smell it at the front of the hotel most days so sitting on your balcony or terrace, I imagine, couldn't be a very pleasent experience. As I said before our apartment was at the back of the complex and it didn't appear to be quite that bad. The majority of the time we couldn't smell it when at our apartment or on the balcony. The last three nights of our stay though ...
Advantages: 24 hour bars Disadvantages: No drinks facilities in rooms-a bit inconvenient
We Stayed at the Club Amigo Atlantico from 17th-31st July 2005 with Sunset Holidays, a subsidiary of Thomas cook.
The stay cost a total of £1200 for two of us on a 3 star, all inclusive basis.
We had a great holiday, but I must note that to see real Cuba (which was not easy to do because of lack of public transport) you had to get out of the hotel and try and book trips: unfortunately with the travel companies.
Although we had a good time, there was an odd atmosphere because of the Cuban guards everywhere, who segregated the Cuban guests from the English and Canadians. Furthermore, we were allowed to use their facilities, but they weren't allowed to use ours. We think this caused some resentment.
I will now discuss the hotel under some relevant sub headings so you can get the lowdown, without having to read the whole of my ...
