I have only been to this hotel once, but it has left a lasting impression of how good a holiday can be.
When I visited this hotel, which is in the lovely resort of Coralejjo, on the Canary Island of Fuerteventura, I had just recovered from a serious illness, and I decided that I needed a really good holiday to find myself again. Consequently I spent about 4 times what I normally would on a holiday, and I think it was well worth it.
I knew I was onto a good thing whilst on the coach that was transferring us from the airport. I am sure you know how it feels as you pull up outside each hotel and
you wonder if it is going to be yours. We had gone through this at four or so hotel complexes when the coach pulled up outside a very modern and stylish looking hotel.
“Who is getting off here”, said the woman in the seat behind me, “It looks very posh.” And then rep called out my name. I think that if I had had a bigger grin on my face, my head would have split in half.
We were greeted as we got off the coach by a gentleman in the traditional dress of the island, who carried our bags to the reception desk for us. The staff at the reception desk were very helpful, and were, as we learned during the course of our holiday, fluent in (at least) English, German and Spanish. We were checked in very swiftly, and shown to our room.
Our room was in a section that overlooked the reception desk, although there are two wings in the hotel too. The wings are, in a word, stunning. There are skylights above, and there is a virtual forest of plants on the floor of each section, and the floors have wide walkways around the edges, allowing a view both up and down from each floor. The effect that this gives is truly amazing. The design of the hotel is of a very high standard and a great deal of care has been taken to ensure that it is soothing and relaxing.
The rooms are big and spacious, with a TV, upon which you can get a range of local Spanish channels and also Sky News, a GIANT bed (I am not sure if this was a king or queen size, but I could lie comfortably on it either top to bottom or side to side), a desk containing a mini-bar and plenty of wardrobe space. The rooms are extremely well appointed, and are very cozy and comfortable.
Each room is also en-suite, with a truly amazing bathroom. Our room was appointed in a mixture of white tile and black marble, with a shower and a bath. The Towels are changed as often as you want, although you are encouraged not to do so everyday, due to environmental impact.
In addition, each room has a balcony which looks down towards the pool area. The balconies are cleverly designed and step down to the pool, with the front of the hotel facing the sea. This means that the famous winds (for which the island is named) are deflected and the balconies remain calm and unruffled.
The pool area itself is extremely well designed and is split into sections by little patches of vegetation, making each little area feel very private and secluded. It also provides the opportunity for lots of shade which helps in the middle of the day.
Food is provided in the main restaurant at breakfast and in the evening, and there is a truly vast and varied amount of food on offer. I have to be honest, I ate a criminal amount whilst is was there, and if I had not been held back by the size of my pesky stomach, I could have eaten more. Salads, soups, fresh fish, steaks – the list goes on and on. Even my wife, who is semi-vegitarian (or just picky, if you prefer) always had a varied meal every day.
During the day, there is also a bar-restaurant behind the pool, and they provide a very reasonable range of meals and snacks. One thing I would recommend is the freshly squeezed orange juice. I do not know what it was, but it was just amazing.
The hotel is situated at the yop end of the main road through the town centre, and down a quiet side street. There is a beach literally across the road, and you can walk to the dunes of the main town beach in about 10 minutes.
I cannot say much about the night life, as we spent most evenings away, but the bar we did visit was lovely, with very helpful staff.
In short, I would recommend this hotel to anyone, and I eagerly await the next chance I get to stay there.
