Advantages: Stunning scenery! Disadvantages: food, a bit of a culture shock
...eating there appeared to be locals.
The Souqs
This is the main shopping area in Marrakech, selling a variety of wares including clothes, furnishings, dried fruit, spices and pastries. I found it quite overwhelming at first as shop keepers compete against each other for your attention, so you are not free to browse. The market is huge and it is very easy to lose track of where you are as there are many passage ways coming off each other!
Other places of interest in the old town are the Saadian Tombs and the Royal palaces and the Menara Gardens.
Day Excursions not to be missed:
There are several tour companies located just off the Djemaa el Fna who organise tours to the atlas mountains, the Cascade d'Ouzoud waterfalls and overnight stays in the Desert. We organised our tours when we got there with a company called Sahara Tours...

Advantages: Beautiful climate, friendly + helpful locals, respectful people, great shopping, out of this world! :) Disadvantages: hassel to buy, quite dusty (not great when you've got a cold)
...your money before you go, unless of course you are going back soon, which in that case it's probably worth keeping hold of rather than paying more commission on it.
I along with four friends, travelled to Marrakech - three of us only staying for 2 nights (literally 48 hours!) and the other two for 3 nights.

We left the cold and rainy London on December 7th 2007 and just 3 and a half hours later landed in a warm and sunny Marrakech! To leave a climate of probably less than 10 degrees Celsius and in the same day be in a climate of more than 20 degrees Celsius, is pretty amazing!
I stepped out of the plane and my...

Advantages: The mix of the city and the lovely riads Disadvantages: The polution from petrol
...My daughter and myself have recently been lucky enough to spend four days in Marrakech in October. It was to me an amazing experience. We had a very early morning flight with Easy Jet, which meant we had most of the rest of the day to spend in Marrakech. From emails that I had been exchanging with the mamagers of The Riad Zolah in whch we were staying I knew we were being met at the airport, and taken as close to the Riad as a taxi can get. We were the last people out of the airport as I had left some things on the plane, and had to wait for it be be boarded before they would go and look for them. Luckily they were still there, and so was the taxi driver. It is an easy 15 minute drive to where we were dropped off, and met by a young lad with a big wooden cart which took our luggage and he guided us through souks and bewildering...

I have just came back from spending a lovely sun-soaked week in Marrakesh in Morocco. I had a fabulous time and also found a hotel that I would really recommend which is the Hotel Amine.
