Montmartre with its artists and strolling musicians is a tourists dream. Sometimes, however, you want to step off the tourist track and sample the real local fare. In my opinion, Restaurant Au clair de la lune, 9 rue Poulbot offers that exact opportunity. The environment is quaint, the food is excellent and the wait staff is very attentive.
My first experience with Au clair de la lune was for a business meeting and the venue was ideal. My second experience was for a romantic dinner with my wife....again it did not disappoint.
Living in Belgium, where the service is poor, I am very sensitive to and appreciative of good service. At Au clair de la lune, the wait staff was very kind and attentive which dramatically increases the pleasure of the experience.
Based on my personal experience, I highly recommend the Restaurant Au clair ...
Advantages: Sour, refreshing and extremely tasty...and CHOCOLATE! Disadvantages: May be too sour for some.
Following on from my review of Gulden Draak I am moving on to another excellent Belgian beer that I sampled at Chesterfield Beer Festival. This is another of my favourites and one that I will most certainly be drinking during my trip to Ghent in April this year. This one isn?t as strong as Gulden Draak and is very different in colour and taste. I love Duchesse deBourgogne and would like to introduce this lovely lady to you!
~~~THE BREWERY.
The Duchesse is brewed at the Verhaeghe Brewery which is based in the Flemish town of Vichte. The brewery dates from the end of the 19th Century and they pride themselves on using traditional methods to produce their beers. Their motto is ?Better less But Better? ~ not got a clue what it means though I?m afraid!
Advantages: Not too sweet, refreshing, great after taste Disadvantages: The price and that I can't buy this here, and you might have a hard time finding it too!
that sells chocolate would fail to catch my eye), and there on the counter they were giving customers free tastes of several different imported brews. The first one I tried did not appeal - tasting much like the soap-water that most Pilsners invoke on my palate. When I told the salesman that I'm not much of a beer drinker, but do like some dark brews, he offered me a small glass of something darker. That brew was "Duchesse deBourgogne" from the brewer Verhaeghe in Vichte, Belgium, and so much taken was I by it that I willingly put down the special sale price of £1 (a real bargain, apparently - see below for other prices) for a small, elegant looking coffee coloured bottle (see pictures above and below) containing a mere 250ml of the product.
Now, the label here tells us that this is a top fermented beer which has been matured in oaken ...
