Auckland Sky Tower
Review of Sky Tower, Auckland by Ben_1907

Advantages: Views
Disadvantages: You will not want to leave

...to Auckland then visiting the Sky Tower is a must do! It is not that expensive to go up and once you are up the tower the views are amazing. You go up in an elevator, and when you get to the top you enter the main circular observatory tower which has massive glass windows all the way around giving you a 360 degrees view of Auckland, some of the best views are of the world famous harbour and Mount Eden, a dormant volcano. If you are the dare-devil ... Read review

Review of Waitomo Caves Blackwater Rafting by candylamour

Advantages: Something you can't do anywhere else!! Incredible experience .
Disadvantages: Cold, dark and scary ;-) Can't take photos below ground

...motorway 3 and head towards Waitomo Caves. The Waitomo Caves are a large network of limestone caves set in the rolling New Zealand countryside and because they are under the countryside you wouldn't think of visiting them!! As you drive down the imaginatively named Waitomo Caves Road you come to the 'Long Black Cafe' the home of 'The Legendary Black Water Rafting Co.' This is where our adventure will take place!! I'm in NZ on holiday with my other ...
...life and times of the Waitomo Glow worm. Our guides are very knowledgeable and are keen to answer peoples questions on the glow worms and the history of the caves themselves. Our lesson complete and we are dragged back up the tunnel to where we entered the freezing water. We are forced to throw our tubes back up the rock wall that we had jumped from. Errr wait a minute....no floatation device???? Now we're walking, wading and even swimming down the ... Read review

An interactive day out for kids and 'big' kids
Review of Auckland Zoo, Auckland by candylamour

Advantages: Plenty to do and good value for money
Disadvantages: Unsure of the transport links

...is it? We visited Auckland Zoo, Western Springs in Grey Lynn at the end of March 2006. Coming from the UK I've been blessed with growing up and visiting the likes of London Zoo, Drusillas Zoo Park, Bristol Zoo and Windsor Safari Park (showing my age) etc. These zoos have always looked dated and behind the times with regards to how animals should be kept. On entering Auckland Zoo I was pleasantly surprised at how contemporary the zoo felt. Friendly, ...
...and do. Auckland Zoo is very much geared towards showcasing it's animals in surroundings as close to their natural habitats and has a pro-conservation vibe with lots of good information on hand. Everywhere you go, a great deal of thought has gone into the surroundings and there is also something interactive to engage you at every turn (probably geared at the kids...but hey, I tried out everything!!). For example the monkey enclosures are a walk ... Read review

Fantastic
Review of Cornwall Park, Auckland by ang_e11

Advantages: Fantastic place for a picnic, to take children or to job/walk, FREE!
Disadvantages: Animals rome freely within enclosed areas - watch out for the dung!

Cornwall Park is about 10 minutes drive from downtown Auckland. The main gates open at 7am and shut around dusk each night. It is situated upon and around One Tree Hill, an Auckland landmark. Unfortunately today it is jokingly referred to as 'No Tree Hill' as the lone tree that once sat on top was destroyed by protestors. The hill can be seen from most places around central Auckland and all that remains on top is a tall concrete oblisque shaped structure. ...
...There is a restaurant, Cornwall Park Garden Restaurant but I have never eaten here. It is a very popular place for locals to come and exercise. It is also a very safe park as there are always lots of people around. It is also a very popular venue for weddings and wedding photographs. Growing up in Auckland I have lots of fond memories frequenting the park as a child for family picnics and regularly visit now as an adult. I would definitely recommend ... Read review
