Australia Backpacker's Guide, Part 1: Preparation
Advantages: Working Visa, money, medical, luggage, flights Disadvantages: Let me know!!!
On the 7th of February 2006, I travelled to Perth, Western Australia. I had no idea what to expect, I was terrified that I would be back on the plane home in a fortnights time as a failure. I have never done anything on this magnitude before and had no idea where to start when I arrived at my destination.
By the time I left on the 1st of November 2006 and arrived back in my hometown, I knew I made a serious mistake, I was back in my home town for ... ...get out of this country'.
Since then I've been getting my life together and making it my goal to get back to Oz before I hit my thirtieth birthday!
But, whilst I'm still stuck in the UK, I talk to other people, who are interested in going over there. I give them advice on places to go, ways of searching for a job, food, drink, wildlife, how to get started, etc.
I looked on the internet to see if anyone else give's advise about travelling overseas, ...

The Sister City of Brisbane, CA. True Story.
Advantages: Everything you need, neatly packaged into an attractive city Disadvantages: Not on many people's itineraries - though it should be!
I headed to Brisbane for a few days as a suitable stop over from Cairns to Sydney, and a suitable base from which to explore Fraser Island and Byron Bay. It was location more than anything that attracted me, but in the end Brisbane ended up being one of my favourite places during my time in Australia.
Brisbane is in the middle of the east coast of Australia, just north of the Queensland / New South Wales border, and the capital of the former. The ... ...the time difference between Brisbane and Sydney since once adopts summer time and the other doesn't, but currently when it's midnight here, it's 10am in Brisbane. Though you can fly into the international airport from most of the Asian stop over options, most people fly into Sydney or Melbourne and then jump on a domestic flight. I flew from Cairns to Brisbane for $100, booked about 8 weeks in advance. The airport is about 20 minutes from the city, ...

The Blue Mountains
Advantages: everything Disadvantages: nothing
...is on my time on The Blue Mountains National Park, located in Sydney Australia. A few friends and I had decided to hire a van and take a tour of the national park, as we had been recommended it by several people we had met along the way. I am usually a fan of national parks; it gives you a chance to take in the scenic view, it gives you a chance to relax and unwind if you have had a busy week, and you even get to see some wildlife. It’s a great experience, ... ...History & Park Info: The park covers 267,954 hectares, which included several mountains and rivers along the trek. The highest point of the park is Mount Werong (1,215 m), and there are some breathtaking views from the top. The area became a national park in 1932, and ever since has become a tourist hotspot for people who like walking and hiking. How to Get There: There are several ways to get to the national park; you can either take a car, or a ...

Rock around the clock.
Advantages: unique, awe inspiring, mystical Disadvantages: remote and expensive to get to
Ayers Rock (or Uluru to give it it's Aboriginal name) is a place that you are unlikely to go for an extended stay. It is a place where you will stop off at on your travels around Australia or, like us, a quick flight in and out with an overnight stay. When you shut your eyes and think about Australia some people will visualize The Opera House, others will see The Great Barrier Reef but many will see the burnt orange glow of Uluru in all it's splendour ... ...and cultural values. Uluru is Ayers Rock and Kata Tjuta are known as The Olgas and about 30 kms West of Uluru and can be seen from Uluru. The rock rises around 1100 feet and can be seen for many miles and at first view is simply awe inspiring.
***where is it?***
Based in the Northern Territory of Australia, the nearest large town, Alice Springs is around 200 miles to the North East. If you imagine a map of Australia it is virtually slap bang in ...
