Friendly Sullivans
Review of Sullivans Hotel, Perth by JackieLittle

Advantages: Comfortable, small and friendly.
Disadvantages: Not in the city centre if you prefer to be where the action is.

We stayed at Sullivans in March 2007, and will be returning in 2009. This is a 3 star hotel and is fairly typical of the standard. It is not an up-market affair, just a comfortable, friendly hotel with lovely views over the river and the city skyline. The location on Mounts Bay Road is convenient for both the city and the surrounding areas, being on the free Blue Cat bus route. The bus stop is right outside the hotel as is the one for the main bus ...
...the road nearby. Sullivans is very popular with Australians as well as overseas visitors. The food is good and reasonable, the staff are very friendly and helpful. It was our first stop in Australia, and we were given all the help we needed to find our feet. When we were registering the receptionist gave us a city map and explained about the free buses and told us which area to go to to for a meal that night. We also had a few dinners at the hotel ... Kimberley Hotel - Aussie oasis in the desert
Review of Kimberley Hotel, Halls Creek by Jim2003

Advantages: Reasonably comfortable, good base for exploring Kimberleys
Disadvantages: Barbed wire security around hotel perimeter

...and to check into the Kimberley Hotel, which tourist brochures describe as 'an oasis in the desert.' This review describes my impressions of the hotel, which is rated four star. As I stayed here overnight on a coach tour, I didn't book the accommodation myself. However, if you were travelling independently, you can expect to pay around $A150 + per night for a room. Although the place is described as an hotel, it is actually more of a large scale ...
...and a dip in the Kimberley Hotel pool can best be described as bracing. The gardens seemed well laid out, and there were some spectacular stands of vivid red tropical flowers which I guessed to be poinsettia, or possibly bougainvillea. Like most tropical flowers, they had no distinct scent compared to the fragrance of a rose for example. There is a spa near the pool, plus an outdoor dining area and also BBQ facilities. The pool leads to a sports ... Read review

Champagne and camel rides at Cable Beach Resort
Review of Cable Beach Club Resort, Broome by Jim2003

Advantages: Beautifully landscaped grounds, high quality accommodation
Disadvantages: Need a GPS to find your room

...stay at plush four star Cable Beach Club Resort in Broome, Western Australia. According to their advertising material, I could expect Asian serenity and Colonial Indulgence. It sounded great and friends had recommended it as a very pleasant place to stay. In total, I spent three nights here. Because it was included in a coach tour package that I'd booked, I didn't make a booking specifically for the hotel itself. However let it be said that the room ...
...easy to get lost here. Cable Beach Club resort is spread out over a large area, and is impeccably landscaped in Oriental style. Red chinese bridges, stone lions and sculptured horses are dotted around the grounds. Very picturesque, but leads to navigational errors when finding your room, One solution is is to follow directional signs if you can find them, and work out which wing you are in. These are given names like Dragon Flower, Bougainvillea ... Read review

Good value at the Goodearth hotel, Perth
Review of Goodearth Hotel, East Perth by Jim2003

Advantages: Central location, good area, value for money, clean and comfy.
Disadvantages: Occasional sagging mattresses, plus check your account carefully.

...spent four nights at the Goodearth hotel Perth Western Australia. Here's how I got on. I booked my accommodation through hotelclub.com and can report that the website was safe and secure when processing my payment of $A428 for the four nights. At $107 per night (approx 45 pounds) it seemed good value to me. Initially, I tried to book this hotel through a Queensland travel agent. They told me there were no rooms available for the period I wanted, ...
...fortunately, found accommodation at the Goodearth on the nights I wanted. So Ciao readers should be aware that just because a travel agent states there are no rooms, it is worthwhile trying the internet instead ! On arrival at the hotel, I stepped into the cheerful, welcoming lobby. Two staff were on duty for check-in, and I didn't have to wait long for room allocation. Staff attitude was helpful and courteous. A minor problem ensued about the breakfasts. ... Read review
