Holidaying in the Tyrol
Review of Tyrol (Austria) by bulldog19

Advantages: Great scenery in the summer
Disadvantages: A long way by coach

I have recently been to Austria on holiday, as a regular traveller I have visited Austria on many occasions during the winter and the summer. During the winter the mountains are amazing and there is some great skiing to be done. But not many people visit Austria during the summer. If you are contemplating taken a summer break there are a number of places to visit and things you you must do while your there. First things first, Places to visit. ...
...it offers too many places of interest to mention, but one way to see all of theses is to take one of the many guided tours around the city, such as the Sound Of Music tour which visits the buildings etc used in the film. Innsbruck. Another huge city, with Horse drawn carriages being the best way to tour this city, with its huge mountains as a backdrop. There is also a train that runs up the side of these mountains and gives you a great veiw over ... Read review

A real Austria town, not just a honey-pot
Review of Schladming by DeliaS

Advantages: Great high-mileage skiing with Amade liftpass
Disadvantages: Quiet nightlife on non world-cup weeks

We went to Schladming twice already, once in 2001 and again in 2003. The town is in upper Styria (Obersteiermark), but is actually nearer to the well-known resorts of Salzburg (Zell Am See, Abtenau, etc.) than the provincial capital of Steiermark which is Graz in the south. Schlamding (or Schladders as my friends now call it) is about a.5 hours from Salazburg airport, and you can make this journey by train or car, but the best option is the planaibus, ...
...airport direct to the town. This town really has a life outside skiing, ther eis some industry, and numerous businesses unrelated to tourism, so you don't get the contrived feeling that you can in some ski resorts. It's not a typical Austrian village though, it's definitely a town in terms of size and character, although it's by no means big. The skiing is on 4 mountains, the Planai, which is reached fmro the centre of town, the Hochwurzen, where ... Read review

Five Star Luxury At A Three Star Price
Review of General: Austria by the_mad_cabbie

Advantages: Superb accomodation. Brilliant food. Excellent facilities. VERY friendly owners.
Disadvantages: Not a thing!

~ ~ One of the problems of going on holiday is you can never be 100% sure that the accommodation you have booked is going to live up to expectations. The Internet has improved things, because now you can log on and check out your selected hotel or guesthouse before you actually part with any hard earned dosh. (Well, most of the time anyway) ~ ~ But even then you can be caught out, if the hotel is slightly less than ethical, and portrays itself ...
...reality. We got badly caught out in 2001, when a hotel we booked as part of a package holiday in Tuscany, Italy, turned out to be only slightly better than a pokey wee bedsitter. So the mad cabbie was determined that the same mistake would not reoccur in 2002, on the family holiday to Kitzbuhel in the Austrian Tyrol. We checked out all the travel agents, and eventually decided on Inghams, a UK based company. ~ ~ Next up was to check out the different ... Read review

Seefeld ( Austria )
Review of Seefeld (Austria) by misty21

Advantages: This is a very beautiful place to be. There are flowers on every balcony which makes it look like a fairy land
Disadvantages: I found none when I was there except if you like to cycle they do it differently

...in in Austria . Seefeld is beautiful with every house and hotel with flowers on the It is so clean and you look up to the mountains and see the snow lying, yet it is not cold. I went up in the cable car to the top and stood looking down at the wooden chalets with flower laden balconys We went to the house where the "sound of music" was played. There was entertainment in the Hotel next door where the men danced typical tyroleon dances, with leather ...
...arrived from Switzerland a very nice lady loaned me her dress. Then my clothes arrived on the day that we were to go up the Dolomites, spectacular views but you would need a strong nerve as the bends in the road were very steep and I had to be sitting on the side looking down a very steep gorge, scary but we made it. Before we got to Assisi, the bus drew in to a cemetry it was beautiful if you can call a cemetry that. there was a large pool surounded ... Read review

Skiing in Obergurgl
Review of Obergurgl-Hochgurgl by spencer95

Advantages: Snowsure resort
Disadvantages: Not much nightlife

Obergurgl is a resort in the Tirolean Alps of Austria. In winter is quite a picturesque town. The skiing is enjoyable for beginners and also intermediates, there is not very much for advanced skiiers in Obergurgl. There is a new four man gondola which links Obergurgl with Hochgurgl, this is a much welcomed alternative to the free ski bus. The apres-ski seems to start in a mountain restaurant just above Obergurgl called the Nederhutte, this is always ...
...you have to ski down to the village! Another lively place for apres ski is the is the umbrella bar outside the Edleweiss and Gurgl. There is not very much to do after the apres ski and you seem to end up in the quite popular night club at the back of the Edleweiss and Gurgl, however it is more of a bar than a club, but it seems to be the only nightclub in Obergurgl. Obergurgl isn't a very big town and it wouldn't afford much more nightlife. There ... Read review
