tried to target the mine but succeeded only in blocking the entrance for a time. The Germans themselves tried to destroy the mine when they abandoned it near the end of the war.
Not long after the war ended the mine was reopened to tourists and to date more than 10,000,000 visitors have toured the mine and its workings.
At the beginning of October I went to Vienna for a weeks break from the drudgery of work, it was a last minute choice of destination (well, I booked it three weeks before leaving but everything else was booked up for the week I wanted to go, my original choice was either Prague or Venice) and it was an inspired choice as it turned out.
The second day of our holiday saw us driving out of the city and down to the Bergwerk Seegrotte, we had seen a pamphlet about it in the hotel and thought it looked interesting ...
Advantages: Great terrain, views and atmosphere Disadvantages: None really (v expensive though!)
Vail really is an incredible place to ski. I must have been there 4 or 5 times over the last 10 years or so and it just gets better each visit. There's a vast amount of on-mountain dining which is ideal for getting in that first refreshing drink of the morning! They've just opened up another mountainside at the back of the resort as well, behind the back bowls, adding another 600+ acres to the skiing area. Lift access is great with something like 15 high speed lifts now including a Gondola from the Lionshead area. Another great activity to indulge in is going on a Snow Mobile tour at night. You can hire them out from Adventure Ridge at the top of the Gondola and a guide takes you accross the mountain. The scenery is breathtaking.
This is truly the best skiing resort in the world! ...
I recently went on a cultural girlie trip with a friend to Paris. I was left to do all the booking. I was looking for a reasonable hotel, near a metro stop, which included breakfast. I came across the Hotel International on various travel sites and it seemed fairly highly rated so I booked us in for three nights.
LOCATION:
The hotel is located 6 Rue Auguste Barbier in the 11th Arrondissement. The nearest Metro stop is Garcourt which was a two minute walk away and it was a five minute walk to Republique which gives good links to other lines. It's not really central enough to avoid the Metro and walk to the attractions but it was located so close to a stop that it seemed ideal.
PRICE:
Prices vary depending on size of room and season. There are singles, doubles and triples available. We paid Euro254 for the whole time ...
