As part of a job I accepted I had to undergo a weeks training course, which meant that accomodation was on offer in Manchester. I already lived in Manchester, but decided that it would be nice to stay in a classy hotel even if it was only 10 minutes from my home. Upon arrival I was welcomed and instructed where to find my room, where I had to insert a card into the door to gain access.
Upon opening the door I found the room spacious and fairly luxurious obviously some of the rooms were intended for people who live there for a long period of time. The en suite facilities were excellent and cleaned to a sparkling shine. A TV and radio in one corner, and a phone to order room service or contact reception nearby.
I dumped my things and proceeded to the bar area where a few other people on the course were meeting. The bar area was in the basement, but still remained as classy as the rest of the hotel with shiny brass poles and large open walkways. The bar staff were friendly, chatty and efficient, and for £3.60 for a pint of coke they could afford to be. In the end I opted to drive just a couple of miles down the road to the pub where a lot of my friends congregate and got the same drink for just £1.09.
The meals were somewhat of a disappointment with only a small selection of food on offer, in a buffet help yourself style which with the company paying we duly did. The food tasted good and was well served and even though perhaps not to my full taste went down well with most (I'm a very fussy eater.)
My stay in the hotel was an excellent experience and if you can afford the extreme price it costs to stay in the hotel (roughly £89.50 per night for a standard single room) then it is well worth it as all guests also get to take free advantage of the swimming pool and health spa area attached to the hotel. Well worth the money if you have it.
I would also like to add that anyone who has enough money to stay at this hotel would be very unlikely to want to take a public transport option, but if they do, theres a bus every 5 minutes at a bus stop right outside. The hotel is situated on a dua carriageway, about 5 minutes drive from Oldham Town centre, and about 20-25 minutes drive from Manchester City Centre. It is however only about a 10 minute drive from the M60 ring road, so well worth looking at with good local infrastructure. Only about a 10 minute walk from Oldham Mumps train station

Am actually staying here next week, although not for free, £65 through laterooms, although the rack rates are a little higher than you state in your op - £120 for a standard double and £140 for a superior - drinks are a little expensive though - thanks for the warning.

Will have to keep an eye out for this one on my next trip to the area.

Now, I don't normally pay £89 for a hotel room out of my own pocket - I'm a Travelodge budget option girl - but it doesn't sound like a bad rate for a room in a good quality hotel in Manchester. This compares to £45-£50 at the cheap and cheerful end but you get what you pay for. And often the standard rate isn't what everyone paid, for example, often you can look for accommodation in a city on an online site which will offer you several options - and people often pay less through such sites than the standard quoted rate.
Where in the city is it? Is it handy for Piccadilly or Victoria stations, the motorways, the shops or any particular tourist attractions or conference venues, for example. Those would add helpfulness to someone reading to find a hotel, dunno about Ciao members.

Advantages: Excellent leisure facilities, good reception staff Disadvantages: Sullen bar staff, poor service, the no-smoking brigade will be outraged, the sink/toilet scenario in the en-suites, Expensive drinks
