We departed Charles deGaulle airport (Paris) to JFK on October 9, 2007. We experienced amazingly good service with the Air France agents, the information board was very helpful. Giving us the counter to start with, an organized tram trip to our Gate (65). The only thing that was long was the lines through Security.....but the modern design of CDG and good food and beautiful stores helped pass the time we waited for our flight.
We like that the arriving passengers were routed through a top tunnel and the departing passengers through lower tunnels....which kept the confusion to a minimum.
If you want a disasterous airport experience, try Jacksonville, Florida.....where the security people think they are all that.....and open everything in your luggage to make sure peanut butter isn't a "Gel".....please..... ...
Advantages: Value for money Disadvantages: High demand
Everyone has heard of Ibis hotels, but not many people are aware that they serve other countries worldwide, such as France.
Ibis Paris Roissey Charles deGaulle Paris is a modern 4-storey building which was built with tourists in mind in the 1980s.
This hotel is perfect for any occasion, whether you're staying the night before/after your flight, or looking for somewhere to stop-over to visit Paris city centre! Situated 2.5km from the CDG airport, this 304 room hotel is perfect for families on a budget. The prices are standard for Ibis htoels, with a room costing
between 66-84 Euros (£45-56) during the week - depending on the time of year and 66 Euros (£45) at weekends. Although this
may seem quite a lot for an airport hotel, its a lot less than other hotels in the are are charging, and you have to bear in mind the demand ...
Advantages: There are some planes Disadvantages: Completely chaotic - Allow at least 2 hours between planes
I rate Paris Charles deGaulle Airport right down with the worst in Europe - its marginally better than Pristina, but much worse than Tirana, Albania.
Endless twisting corridors, escalators, lifts ramps and stairs to confuse the heck out of you. Terrible signage. The security checks are sloooow and chaotic and everywhere there are staff screaming at passengers. Its a complete mess.
Why does it take 3 bus trips and 90 minutes to transfer from one plane to another when they are 50 metres apart? Why do they park a full 747 at least 3 miles from the main terminal and unload it using buses? Why do the bus drivers stamp on their brakes every few metres? Is it a deliberate policy to try to make the journey between terminals as uncomfortable as possible?
Its a disaster - they should tear it down and start again ...
