Advantages: lots to see Disadvantages: lots to hear
...Hubbie and I have been in Avignon for a week and we came back last Thursday with some regrets.....
... let me tell you so that you don't do the same mistakes....
Avignon is a very interesting city in the Provence, South of France.
Famous for the un-repaired bridge and the Pope Palace, Avignon offers culture and lots of restaurants.
Hubbie and I like eating - and we spent half a monthly wage and nearly all our time in restaurants.
DON'T DO THIS!
Hubbie and I like to explore new places on our own - without maps and usually we get lost in some ugly suburbs.
DON'T DO THIS!
Hubbie and I used the last hour before our flight home to have a sight-seeing trip on the little train-car.
DON'T DO THIS!
If you go to Avignon, please please have a trip with the train-car on your first day and have a look...

........if only!
Just back from one of the best holidays of my life. Two weeks in Provence, and how I wish it had been a year as in Peter Mayle’s book…..
We booked our hotel, car hire and accommodation independently. We found our cottage by leafing through a Blake’s Cottages – France book, and we were actually able to book on line, so we instantly knew which cottages were available for what weeks. However, we booked six months in advance and many of the cottages which we liked were already gone, so my advice is to book as early as you can, not that we were disappointed with our accommodation at all, quite the contrary. Our gite, which would have slept four, was a tad over £800 for two weeks, although the prices rose quickly after this, as is the norm for accommodation of this kind.
We booked flights through British Airways...

Advantages: A LOVELY PLACE Disadvantages: ONLY FOR SUMMER TIME
...last year, I spent some days in this magnificent region.
I stayed in the hotel THE PARADOU which is in Lourmarin.
Before presenting you this establishment, I give you some elements to visit the landscape
Luberon owes its name to the mountain range included between Cantaloupe and Manosque. We distinguish the massifs of Small Luberon on the West and Grand Luberon in the East, separated by the coomb of Lourmarin (bed of the stream of Aiguebrun, dominated by the Fort of Buoux, site of escalation(climbing)). The arc of a circle which composes it is bounded by Durance in the South.les Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and the plain of Vaucluse in the North.
Lubéron is largely in the department of Vaucluse .,
All the color palette declines in the overalls of the lavender, the green of its forests, whiteness of its calcareous colinnes...

We stayed at this hotel after booking a cheap 'new route' flight via Easyjet. The hotel has a feeling of being in an Agatha Christie novel with a certain shabby chic and some interesting people-watching moments - wealthy Europeans and Americans. Service... more
