This is a review for the Avis London city airport outlet. I hired a car 2 weeks ago picking up the car at 5pm on friday and dropping it off at 4pm on the sunday. The total cost was around £150 which may sound expensive but was actually not that bad considering this included.... Full car hire for 2 days (£50) windscreen protection (£3) Full insurance with excess limited to £100 (£30) A VW Golf 1.9 Diesel A full tank of diesel fuel. (£60)
Service. I found the staff to be friendly and helpful. I was offered an upgrade but the sales pitch was not pushy and I accepted. Going from a Ford Focus to a VW golf for about £3 is not something I was about to turn down! I was also offered the chance to buy a full tank of fuel up front which I also accepted. Given this was an airport on a Friday night there were plenty of staff at the desk and all fairly knowledgeable. From getting to the desk to sitting in the car took about 15 minutes. The car was parked right outside and I was given a statement which clearly broke down all costs and so there would be no nasty add-ons when I returned the car.
The return was as easy as the collection. Again no waiting time and the girl on the desk was very quick to step outside and check the vehicle. I was told that a statement of receipt would be sent to my address but she printed off one as well and gave it to me.
The Car As I said for a £3 upgrade (original cost of hire was £51) I went from a standard 1.4 Ford Focus to a 1.9 diesel Golf. The car was immaculately clean and had the manual in the glove compartment. Being a diesel it was a little loud but generally drove like a dream and was as quick as nails! In total I racked up over 650 miles in the 2 days (Newcastle and back) but this was all covered in Avis' unlimited mileage which is pretty industry standard.
Overall. I have hired 4 or 5 cars this year and I have to say that I have been most impressed with Avis so far. Great car at a reasonable price and excellent service.
