I'm a made redundant resting salesman and someday I'll enter an opinion on the fact that kids mothers are nanny goats or should that be the other way round.I think I better add that I live in Co Londonderry, N. Ireland

Last June I went on holiday to Cyprus, I’d been there 13 years earlier but it was a hazy memory, nothing to do with amnesia. I had the desire to return to this place because I live in a similar situation, north versus south and it doesn’t really worry me, I’ve learned to live with it. Anyway, skinflint as I am, brochures are out of the question, I visited my local travel agent and let them know I wanted a 2 week holiday, middle 2 weeks in June, preferably in Cyprus. This happened in the middle of May and I was quoted £299 and looking aghast I said I only want self catering without a pool on the balcony. I delved into the net and found one for £189pp and on returning to my local T.A. they managed to find it so I was off with free insurance. Hint to people who find cheap deals on the net your local TA can find the same and using them builds up a relationship to your advantage.
This was a named accommodation holiday, in other words it was the 1st holiday for years I actually knew where my bed was located before I left. I looked it up in the brochure and found out that it was central and that meant a saving on taxis, I once went on a cheapie and the apartment was so remote you had to take a taxi to go to the toilet but that’s another story. The Phillipiano Apts, I’m not joking, were right in the middle of old town Ayia Napa on the main street next door to the Hard Rock bar. It is a small 5 floor block with several 3 floor annexes behind it, where our 1 bedroom apartment was. Through experience I was not surprised to find our self catering method of cooking was a 2 ring electric cooker about the size of the average scanner and the fact that the oven had gone on holiday with the grill meant that cordon blue cooking was breathing a sigh of relief for another fortnight.
Unfortunately the plane departed at 22:00 hrs, 5.5 hrs flight plus 2 hrs time difference so we landed about 5:30 Cyprus time and with 1hr transfer time I arrived in Ayia Napa about 6:30 and people were going back to bed, presuming they had come from one. This is the 1st time I’ve ever landed on holiday and met a large number of people going to bed with the sun shining. This set the tone for the holiday, Ayia Napa doesn’t start until 0:00 hrs, slightly earlier or later, depending on drink intake, but I, we, had to take the wife she might have missed me, enjoyed our holiday. Can I tell anybody thinking of booking in Ayia Napa its very hilly, sorry only 1 hill, but to move from the old town to the new bit, marina, beach etc no problem but coming back take the vitamin pills or stop frequently and sample the local produce and you’ll never notice.
What I’m trying to say is Ayia Napa is for the young not the young at heart unless you’ve got the staying power of a mule and the constitution of a donkey. Cheers ....Peter

Thanks for this overview on Ayia Napa, I've never been to Cyprus but, as you know I've now been to Malta and friends have told me that Cyprus is better. I'll have to go and see for myself, using SAGA.
Keep up the good work, Les.
