AYIA NAPA, THE PLACE FOR PEOPLE AGED 2 - 82!!

Most people's assumption is that Ayia Napa is full of clubs and that all you will hear is party noise - WRONG!

Cyprus as a whole is very family oriented and is very welcoming to tourists, particularly the English. the English tourist can be very lazy here as English is generally spoken very well by the majority of Cypriots and in particular those in the hospitality trades.

The waters are crystal clear, many hotels offer introductory SCUBA diving courses and full PADI courses are readily available. Majority of Ayia Napa\'s beaches are of Blue Flag standard, and there are still a few coves known only to a handful of people to offer privacy peace and seclusion.

In Ayia Napa itself, a car is not necessary, but you could make use of one, and if you were staying for two weeks you could take trips throughout the island - takes about 2hours to drive from one end of the island to the other - at the other end you would see Aphrodite\'s rock and the Troodos mountains. If you do hire a car, they are right hand drive and usually of a reasonable standard - driving is easy, the speed limits are in KM, but so are the cars.

There are excellent wide cycle paths next to the generous pavements and there is an extensive coastal path which is so big that it is featured on maps of the island!

The pavements are generally in good order and mostly have ramped access for wheelchairs/mobility scooters to have no problems, there is also a good bus service throughout the day and reasonably priced taxi services. the area is not very hilly, mainly flat. In the winter months the Scandinavians stay for 3 or 6 months mainly to hike on foot.

Food - full range of traditional and international cuisine available, for budgets ranging from back-packer to the extravagant. From fast foods, to waterside fish restaurants to silver-service.

money:at this point, the Cyprus Pound is still in place and £1CYP is equivalent to approx £1.30 GBP - however with great sadness the island is losing its unique currency in January 2008 to the EURO, locally they fear that the prices will look so much higher that they will suffer - we will have to wait and see

weather/season - generally the holiday season is from April until the end of October, though some businesses shut down at the end of September. Cyprus boasts an average of around 330 days per year of sunshine, my personal preferred months to visit are May-June and again September into October, the end of July into August it is very hot, be warned!

Clubs- these actually only occupy a small concentrated area in the centre known as 'the square', some of them don\'t open until around midnight and go on until breakfast, my husband and I are not clubbers but we had actually been to Ayia Napa for four years before discovering the existence of these clubs and only then because my husband could not sleep and went walking! unless you are staying in accommodation right in the town centre, you probably will not be aware that the clubs exist.

There is one concentrated area of bars and restaurants that are all competing for custom and they do try very hard to entice you in! offers of free drinks etc

At the other extreme there are historical/archaeological places of interest, there are frequent festivals and displays of traditional plays and dancing, at Cape Greco there is a beautiful view over Ayia Napa and a monument constructed in 2000 to symbolize freedom. The Cyprus Tourist Organization have a great website and also operate cheap or sometimes free excursions.

Waterworld water park is the largest in Europe and is a whole day of fun for all the family - found a on the main road between Ayia Napa and Ayia Thekla.

Having visited the beautiful island frequently over the last 15 years, we have bought a stunning apartment on Nissi Avenue, opposite Nissi Beach. It was completed in June 2006, is spacious and well appointed, sleeps up to 6 with a double room/en suite, twin bedded room, main bathroom and a king-sized luxury sofa bed available in the lounge. We offer holiday letting during the summer and it is currently rented for the winter.

We are 5 minutes stroll from Nissi Beach and from a smaller cove called Sandy Bay.
Our apartment is on the ground floor and wheelchair accessible,. It is a small development of 8 houses and 8 apartments with private parking and a communal swimming pool .

We are in a beautiful position about 25minutes walk from the centre, but with all amenities available in the immediate locality.

What are the beaches like in Ayia Napa? I've been to both Paphos and Larnaca and the sand often leaves a lot to be desired! Lexy
