With the exception of Tenerife I usually tend to holiday places only once, preferring to try new places rather than return to ones I have already visited. I have been to torremolinos twice now though and a large part of the reasoning behind that is this wonderful hotel (Sol Principe).
This hotel is situated alongside the beach of Playa mar approximately 2km outside the city of torremolinos. It is served by Malaga airport which is a little over 4 miles away and takes only a 15 minute transfer by coach to reach.
On approach to this hotel the first thing that caught my eye was the size of the grounds it stood in but it soon became apparent why. This hotel is actually part of a complex which includes as well as the hotel itself the Apartments Sol Principito, a fairly large private car park, a sports area, gardens, a supermarket ...
Advantages: fantastically huge balcony, nice rooms, next to beach, friendly cleaning staff Disadvantages: reception staff fairly unfriendly, luck of draw if you get a good balcony, choice of food
***INTRODUCTION - WHY THE SOL LANZAROTE???***
In October this year, me and Marymum (that's what I call her since her name's Mary and she's my mum) went to Lanzarote for what I felt for me was a well-deserved week in the sun after a very hectic year. The two years previous I had been on two holidays a year and this year I only got one so I was REALLY looking forward to it, as you might imagine!
I pretty much left it up to Marymum to book something as it was her who was paying - the only stipulations I gave was that it had to be the Canaries or Cyprus. After all, if I was only getting one holiday (she's had about five this year already, honestly!!!) I wanted guaranteed sunshine, and Benidorm, which was her choice, just wasn't necessarily going to cut it, whereas I knew the others were far more likely to deliver in mid October. So ...

Advantages: Location, Price, Staff Disadvantages: Not the height of luxury
I've been to this hotel countless times over the years, both with family and with my partner and would go back every time. The staff are great, the acommodation is great and the facilities are great. But the major selling point for me is the location - a stones throw away from the beach, a leisurely walk to the lively and picturesque Benalmadena Marina and a (sometimes slightly death-defying!) 15 minute journey from the airport.

Originally, my parents took me and my sister here about ten years ago and they booked it through a package company, but with the vast number of low-cost airlines now regularly flying in to Malaga airport, it now makes more sense to book it independently.
