I was very pleased when British Midland started a budget airline in the East Midlands as I live near Nottingham. I travelled with BMI baby in May 2003 to Jersey. I found no problems at the airport and the flight was basic but adequate and what you would expect for the price.
My problem arose when the return flight was cancelled. After queueing for some time to speak to the lone rep at Jersey airport we were told it was due to the weather in Jersey (bright blue sky and sunshine - not affecting any of the other airlines. The rep was completely useless. All she could say was "we are doing nothing to help anyone" when pushed she came up with the central reservations number but said that we'd find all the flights were booked for the next 4 days as it was Bank holiday weekend. No assitance or information on alternatives offered.
We decided to take the ferry to Poole and shoulder the additional cost ourselves. I did, however, expect a refund on the flight as advertised on the website. I wrote to the company and had to wait over TWO MONTHS for a reply. I was told that because we had CHOSEN not to wait for 4 days for the next flight that we would not get a refund but a credit note. This incidentally, has to be booked by phone and so no online discount and has to be taken in the next 6 months i.e. during winter schedules which are woefully depleted.
Overall I would say this airline is fine for a cheap basic option from the Midlands. Just don't expect any customer support if things go wrong.
