I travel frequently from UK to Malaga. After several years of consistently excellent service from EasyJet, for my last trip I decided to give BMI baby a try. I booked online and it seemed a great deal. At the price my wife and I paid we decided that we could probably afford to make even more trips to our humble casita.
The flight out from Manchester was great and for the whole of our stay in Spain we sang BMI's praises to our frequent traveling amigos.
When it came time to check-in for our return the Malaga weigh-in staff told us that our bags were overweight and that the instructions they had received from BMI were to to rigidly enforce weight allowances for all their passengers. Since we had had no problem loading our bags at the outward check in (and I suspect that they weighed slightly less on our return) we were stunned. Half a dozen fellow passengers were similarly penalised and very distressed.
I fumed, got nowhere, then (at my dear wife's insistence!) paid up 128euros and got on. Once on board I scoured my computer confirmation printout but could find no reference to specific weight constaints. Once home in UK I wrote a nice letter to the MD of BMI suggesting, that since the information available to me at the time of booking was not clear on this point, he should reimburse me. Some 6 weeks later I'm still awaiting a reply!
The thing that most concerns me is that I have not had the courtesy of even the most perfunctory response from BMI management. Great shame!
