Baden-Baden

Baden-Baden

Last year in February I had some free days and decided to spend one in Baden-Baden, a small but famous town in the southwest of Germany set in a wooded valley of the northern Black Forest, 70 km west of Stuttgart, 30 km south of Karlsruhe and 40 km northeast of Strasbourg in France. The name ... Read review

Splendid Spa-Spa

Advantages: a pretty small town with an elegant flair
Disadvantages: none

...I must have been in Baden-Baden before that year, what happened to the building after that date I don´t know, I only know that in 1998 it opened as the Festspielhaus.

I got off at the beginning of the pedestrian precinct (not all visitors may be enthusiastic about the cobblestones, they're new put in for nostalgic reasons), nearly the whole centre is without traffic, very good this, and started walking. I liked what I saw at once (Baden-Baden ...
...pointing to the important sights Baden-Baden has to offer so that I had no problem finding the tourist information office (at last!). It is housed in the Trinkhalle (Drinking Hall) , an impressive building with a 90 m long covered promenade supported by Corinthian columns. I couldn´t use the bathing facilities for lack of time but I wanted to drink some of the famous water at least! I got a plastic cup at the counter of the bar/restaurant (20 cent) ... more

Ryanair-gets you places

Advantages: Does what you want
Disadvantages: If something goes wrong-it's not the best.

I have flown with Ryanair on several occasions-I don't really know what how routes differ, but maybe they do due to staff or whatever. The routes I have flown are as follows: London Gatwick to Dublin, Dublin to Gatwick, London Stansted to Bydgoszcz (Poland), Stansted to Krakow, Gdansk to Frankfurt Hahn, Karlsruhe Baden-Baden to Stansted, Venice Treviso to Stansted, and an aborted attempt to fly to Riga (Latvia). All in all I have been very happy with what I have experienced with Ryanair. The first flight-to Dublin-was delayed 6 hours because the plane broke, and another had to fly in to replace it, but this was not a major cause for concern, maybe had I been in a hurry it would have been more annoying, but I felt that they kept us well informed of the situation. All other flights have gone without major delay or incidents ...

Genteel Harrogate

Advantages: Genteel; Pleasant;Nice Shopping;Beautiful flowers
Disadvantages: Expensive for antiques; gets busy

,fortify the body and lift the spirits. Tennis courts, miniature golf and play facilities for young children provide excellent opportunities for recreation in Harrogate. The Sun Pavillion hosts the Spring Flower Show whilst the Autumn or Fall Show is held in the magnificent Harrogate International Centre The International Centre has a 2,009 seat auditorium interlinked with seven exhibition halls and a 1,276 seat ,Royal Hall,is in the heart of this attractive town.. Links with Harrogate's intriguing past as a spa town of international repute-the Yorkshire Baden-Baden, are maintained; a splendid example being provided by the excellent Turkish Baths. Open to the public seven days a week, they are located in the elegant and imposing Royal Baths Assembly Rooms.Only a short stroll away is the recently refurbished 150 year old Royal Pump Room Museum ...

Review of Harrogate (England)

Strasbourg Cathedral

Advantages: Beautiful Gothic cathedral set in a delightful setting.
Disadvantages: Gets crowded when the clock is performing. Pickpockets.

Strasbourg Cathedral. Where is Strasbourg? Strasbourg is in the North East region of France in Alsace which is on the border with Germany. It has a chequered history in that it has been at different times throughout history either in Germany or in France. It is currently of course in France. The region has its own dialect of French known as Alsacien with a combination of French and German words. Getting to Strasbourg can be an absolute nightmare from the UK involving changes of planes either at Charles de Gaulle airport in Paris or Frankfurt am Mein in Germany. Ryan air fly to Baden Baden- Karlsruhe not too far away in Germany after Air France objected to them flying into Strasbourg. Air France no longer offers direct flights from the UK. By Road: Strasbourg is at the end of the very useful motorway system in ...
